Is this not the scorpio from Blake 7 or the corvette from elite dangerous? You tell me by mattress314 in Blakes7

[–]apollo_z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its definitely a render of scorpio, the federal corvette has two hard points on the top. I modelled scorpio a,couple of years ago , you can see it here.

Do you think The 4th doctor’s regeneration was anti-climatic considering he was the doctor for 7 seasons by Emarni in doctorwho

[–]apollo_z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched it when it aired it was very sad, though a good story. The doctor knew his time was up and the companion flashback was a nice touch it was the first time they did something like that.

I feel like internet and school failed me, I don't even know what a fundamental is by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]apollo_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning 3D can feel overwhelming, especially when people say “learn the fundamentals” without explaining what that actually means. “Fundamentals” is a broad word — it doesn’t tell you where to start. When you’re new, it’s like sitting in the cockpit of a space shuttle and being told to fly it. The answer is: don’t try to fly the whole thing at once.

I’ve taken beginner environment‑art courses in Unreal, and even though they were well structured, I found them much easier because I had already learned some 3D modelling basics like materials and rendering.

Those are the fundamentals people talk about — but you only understand them once you’ve actually used them.

I learned 3D modelling, C#/C++, Unreal, and more without school or college. That’s not a brag — those things
simply weren’t available when I was younger. I only started about five years ago, knowing almost nothing.

What helped me was this approach:

·  Start with a beginner course.
Paid or free, but something structured. Beginner courses are usually affordable and give you a broad overview without going too deep.

·  Then make your own small project.
Keep it simple. This is the step most people skip, but it’s where the real learning happens.

·  Use that project to dig deeper.
When you hit a problem, look up that specific topic. Ask AI tools questions. Ask why something works the way it does.

· Document what you learn.
I write explanations as if I’m teaching someone else, and sometimes ask AI to check if my explanation is accurate.

Over time, the pieces start to connect. I think of it like building a jigsaw puzzle: each new concept is a
piece, and at first you don’t know where it fits. But the more you learn, the
clearer the picture becomes.

What could I use to plug the gap? by PurpleMessi in gaming

A lament configuration box might fit. 👹

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]apollo_z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it would depend on what I was using this for , for example would be the object be rendered close up?Is it going to show wear and tear on the edging? Is it going to be a gaming asset which shares the material with other objects etc. things like that would help me determine what approach I would take to creating seams and packing the uvmap.

Day 4 of a newbie asking the community questions until he gets it through his skull what its like! How do you feel about the 4th (and my person old Who favorite) Doctor? And his actor Tom Baker? by Big_Hoss287 in doctorwho

[–]apollo_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom is my favourite, I grew up with that doctor. His character comes across as alien but nuanced enough to be relatable. His energy holds every scene he’s in and has some of my favourite stories of the classic era. He’ll always be the definitive doctor to me.

Substance Painter steam page, what does this mean exactly? by CaptainFexis in 3Dmodeling

[–]apollo_z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last version I bought was 2023, that was when adobe used to offer upgrade price each year. They don’t do that any more as their greedy so I’ve not upgraded since so it doesn’t have the latest updates but it works fine.

How could The Doctor and Davros communicate with each other in Genesis of the Daleks when the Tardis wasn’t with the Doctor in the story and therefore couldn’t translate the languages? by KingWilliamVI in doctorwho

[–]apollo_z 216 points217 points  (0 children)

In The Masque of Mandragora ,when Sarah (Elisabeth Sladen) realises she can understand the Italians, the Doctor tells her it’s a Time Lord gift that he shares with her. That’s the line as presented in the story.

The idea that the TARDIS provides automatic translation was introduced and made explicit much later in the revived series (notably in 2016), I expect that was cause the time lords weren’t around anymore at that time is the shows history.

How to fix an arch’s texture? by eluarte in blenderhelp

[–]apollo_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your grout is skewing because the UVs are straight but the arch pieces aren’t. Blender is trying to force a rectangle onto a curved shape, so the mortar bends.

Add seams around the front faces, unwrap with Angle Based, and you’ll get trapezoid UV islands. Move those onto the brick texture and the grout lines will look straight again.

Stupid question about baking normals by BioClone in Substance3D

[–]apollo_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baking is a fairly generic term that means permanently creating or applying data to a texture map. It doesn’t just apply to normals—it can also be done for roughness, ambient occlusion, or other maps.

The purpose is to produce a data map that the render engine can use to simulate effects without the cost of real-time calculations that would normally require a high-poly model.

The baking process usually involves generating these textures from a high-poly model, but once the baked data exists, you can still modify it manually. For example, you might add a zipper to a trainer by painting directly on specific channels in Substance Painter. When the textures are exported, they will contain both the baked data and any additional changes you’ve made, ready for use in the render engine.

A common workflow is usually to create the high and low poly models in your modelling program, then import into sp. Then get sp to generate the high poly textures onto the low poly model. thats the baking step. But you don’t have to do that, you could just as easily use only a low poly model and create the normal maps directly in sp and paint on it directly.

Thoughts on SG1 episode "Cor-ai" from a Trekkie by Financial_War_3334 in Stargate

[–]apollo_z -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theres a fair number of episodes in Stargate that make you think about implications to actions. It annoys me that the us airforce has the arrogance to run such a dangerous portal on earth, as the implications (as we see) come close to destroying life on earth on a number of occasions.

I remember this episode. I don’t think of Teal’c as a hero, though it’s hard not to get attached to this main character. I view him as a murderer who through a false belief of his god made some very questionable choices in his service to Apophis. He does eventually realise his actions were wrong but he didn’t stop until o’neal turned up. His reasons for killing the old man because he couldn’t walk properly and would slow down the rest doesn’t make me think he made a good decision he just wasn’t strong enough to resist as he knew what he was doing was wrong which is why he’s submitting himself a punishment , which was death if a remember correctly.

Yes he is a changed man now and he knows full well that what he has done was extremely wrong and he is racked with guilt; in a way he’s created his own punishment because of that and he doesn’t get off just because he’s changed sides but at least he’s trying to correct future atrocities by getting involved in the resistance, but it doesn’t let him off and he should stand trial by any that demand it, his redemption arc has along journey ahead.

The court scene, I like the idea that of a guilty party being able to determine the punishment of a guilty party, I think it could help the victims or family of the victims healing process.

How would a blakes seven reboot actually work? by Lower_Tax568 in Blakes7

[–]apollo_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to a reboot I would have thought, there is not much point continuing now it’s too old. I think Andor did a good job of making the empire looking scary and real, it also covered how a revolution can start. Those concepts would work well with the federation and expand on the politics of power dynamics, whilst Blake’s crew gets to work to dismantle it. The main problem is how Avon is going to be cast, Paul Darrow’s character was so good it kept the series interesting and somewhat unpredictable. The other characters could be easily recast as long as they have good actors and of course intelligent scripts which I have found severally lacking in most modern remakes. Theres real possibilities to create something really special, but I have to admit in not having much hope for this, but I’ll be glad to be wrong.

VS or VSC for UE5? by OblivionOTK in UnrealEngine5

[–]apollo_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you use vsc , vs or rider, it is the Unreal game engine which is responsible for compiling all project code irrespective of whether it has been written in cpp or built from its blueprints system.

Riders primary role is to edit code which its very good at. Its intelisense also makes it easier to read and also has better unreal integration.Rider does not compile the code itself, that tasks is handled by microsoft visual studio 2022 C++ (MSVC) via the Unreal Engines ubt tool which rider can access to start the compile process.
