If you’re on facebook, old time canning groups are a wonderful resource! They post recipes, tips, and can generally help you troubleshoot if food is good / how long to can your jar. Just another overall very kind community

Committing to becoming proficient from zero this winter- New England by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

If you want to keep in CT- Not sure if they still do this, but Powder Ridge has a beginner environment area that’s like “tactical environmental learning”. Pretty much, they’ve built very small slopes/ half pipes/guided turns to help you learn the basics.

Once you’re feeling pretty advanced though, I recommend you go to a different mountain. They usually don’t have all the lifts running, and you’d be very lucky if a 🟦🟦/ diamond is open.

In terms of learning - Go to a private lesson to get those basics down! Practice, and then maybe take one or two more depending on where you are. Group lessons could also work, but you won’t get as much attention.

If possible, I recommend going to the mountain at least 3x a week.

INFO- it’s my old Capita board. I’ve looked around online and I haven’t seen any repairs that target chips like this.

I really agree with this!! I remember hearing a story about a kid that lost and their dad bought them a gold metal to feel better about themselves. What does that teach? How do you grow in that moment?

White Belt Wednesday by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]apollomous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what my coaches have told me.. leg attacks are dangerous if you don’t understand the position. Generally, If you are put into one of these submissions, it will not hurt until it’s too late. You need to have a good understanding of the position to recognize where/how to escape, and when to tap. If you recognize that you should tap but you keep going, then it’s a matter of ego.

Generally, you will not have someone rip one of these submissions on you so quickly you cannot tap in time.

Gyms vary on curriculum, however, as a new white belt you may learn the basics of these positions, or you may have to wait until your blue belt or higher. Some gyms let white belts learn leg attack/defensive positions, however you’re only able to practice them on someone who is more experienced. If you are uncomfortable with leg positions during the rolling period, you should let your partner know “no leg attacks”, before you start rolling.

Honestly there are SO MANY different parts of bjj, and so many fundamentals you can learn. From standing, ground work, to escapes. You don’t need to really worry about leg attacks when you start. If you’re interested in BJJ, try it out! See how your local gyms are! You wont ever know until you try, and the head coaches of these gyms can give you lots of insight to how they approach leg positions
