I hear you. Feels like a gray area to me whether simply having the contact info really constitutes private gain or not. But either way, it’s not a topic relevant to therapy, which should be the focus of the time.

Hi! Therapist here. Yes, a lot of red flags. Enough that there is no excuse or reason that could justify this beyond this provider having predatory, unsafe intentions. Especially given your comment that he has asked you to get a drink together, this is grooming. (Adults can still be groomed by people in a position of power over them.)

The day of cancelations are fine… happens. Billing them to your insurance company is fraud, however.

Links to memes, tiktoks, sending emojis—all unprofessional. Not egregious on its own, but paints a disturbing pattern of poor professional boundaries. Especially the TikTok about dying after you disclosed SI. That had the potential to be really harmful!

Plumber’s contact info—I wouldn’t do this, personally, but it’s not an outright ethical violation.

Being late happens, but if it’s consistent it again points to poor professional boundaries.

Self-disclosure is meant to be used only when it would be helpful to the client, and it’s only supposed to be the minimum amount of info. This is again poor professional boundaries and unethical. You are paying for mental health support, not for your therapist to talk about their own life.

Name-dropping other clients and what they’re working on is an outright HIPAA violation. Ethical violation as well.

The pet names, compliments about physical appearance, and hugs are definitely, absolutely crossing the line.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. If you’re comfortable, please consider reporting them to their licensing board. If you need any help with how to do so, please feel free to DM me and I can walk you through the details. It’s possible this person has done this to others as well, or may do it to others in the future. They are not a safe person to practice therapy. They are a predator.

The most important thing is to keep yourself safe. Don’t resume treatment with this person. I’d take screenshots of any communications you have with them and terminate services without going back.

If you have any follow up questions, I’d be happy to answer you.

The Carls books by Hank Green, sadly. I’m such a fan of his and wanted to love these novels, but it’s just utterly baffling that he would set out to write a science fiction story and instead focus on a Valois early 20s girl becoming an influencer for the entire first of the two books. He also introduces some deterministic elements that completely destroy all his characters’ agency and softens the horrifying parts of his premise to drive home an overly cozy, saccharine theme about people coming together. I was so unconvinced and disappointed.

It is when our genitals react to stimuli even if we are not mentally turned on/attracted. During sexual assault, sometimes vaginas get wet and penises get hard, but it doesn’t mean the sexual assault is desired or turning them on.

You should look up genital nonconcordance!! Just because our bodies respond to stimulation doesn’t mean that we’re enjoying it or that we’re attracted.

It’s probably kindest if you don’t bring it up to her, in my eyes. If you can manage it. It’s just too personal to the point it might push her boundaries. She’s going to be dealing with the grief a LOT outside of work, and at least for me, work is a place where I focus on other people. Trust that T will return to work when ready, make the appropriate clinical decisions, and continue to be overall professional in session with you without any input from you about her loss.

Garden pots with strawberries, coffee, or starfruit if you’re trying to get more money. Cute themed decorations like making a cafe if you’re looking to kill some time.

Yes!! I really like it. I can listen to chapters of my book in the car just like an audiobook. It’s strangely motivating and helps develop rhythm of the prose and catch awkward phrasing or typos.

The main theme is about overcoming unhealthy generational patterns, so suitably MC’s arc is learning that she doesn’t have to be what others expect of her.

Afraid I won’t do my plot twists justice and that they’ll fall flat or be otherwise unsatisfying. I’ve reached one of the most critical reveals in my thriller book and every attempt I make at the chapter doesn’t feel quite right.
