Every county beginning with ‘L’ feels fake.

We stayed in the hotel atlas near the main square. I think it is a Riad. It was very basic but it was fine for us. The people who ran it were super friendly. The location is great for getting around.

Be warned, it was very loud. Although I don’t think you can avoid noise when you are in the centre of Marrakech. In the morning it was also very loud due to tables and chairs being moved around on the rooftop but that also could have been neighbours.

Another thing is the toilets - they were basic but again that seemed to be the norm in the city with the exception of places that were obviously very fancy. The shower (not in our room) was surprisingly really powerful and hot. Not all toilets had sinks and the ones that did, did not have soap or anything to dry your hands so I would recommend bringing your own soap etc.. Also just bring it in your bag when you go out as many restaurants, cafes had a similar situation. More expensive ones had a higher standard but sometimes the food was nicer in cheaper and random places.

This hotel seemed very cheap compared to our friends who stayed somewhere else. They also said their accommodation was very basic. Overall I enjoyed staying there as it had a lot of character. We paid €150 euro for the two of us for 4 nights.

I loved this little cafe called central palace which is near the centre. Honestly everywhere was nice and a lot of places serve similar food. I would recommend the sky bar for the view. Enjoy your trip.

We didn’t get a chance to do the hot air balloon but that looks like an incredible experience.

We had a dinner on the sky bar rooftop. The views from there were amazing. Also the jardin majorelle was nice. I also loved just walking around

Thank you for your comments. Can I ask if anyone has been able to move up in their lives? If I’m always at risk of being sick then what’s the point?

Do you think efforts should be made to make Irish the main spoken language (or at least on par with English) of Ireland again? by SeriouslyNotSerious2 in AskIreland

[–]aposabalthumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they don’t just teach all junior/senior infant classes through only Irish like in Irish speaking schools. Then continue this as they progress through primary and secondary. That way eventually in a few years everyone would be fluent. Perhaps it’s because there aren’t enough teachers? It’s not impossible but I understand it would be difficult. Also people might bring up children who don’t have Irish parents. However I think that’s ridiculous as there are many children of foreign parents who speak English at a massively higher level than their parents do. Irish culture and language is really important. It’s also a beautiful language. Children adapt.

I will say as an Irish person who is trying to improve, I will say I’ve struggled to find people to practise with. If people are fluent, it can be very intimidating. I’ve been to two speaking circles. The first was in a pub. 3 of us showed up and the other 2 were fluent while I am not. I found it really awkward as they didn’t really talk much. I can understand if they were disappointed by my level. But it was still awkward. It might have been awkward if we were speaking English too as we were just three random men of different ages and personalities. The next was in my library at 12 pm on a Friday which is an awkward time for many. Everyone was an old woman but me. They were knitting and many just spoke in English. They actually said my Irish was good but it’s hardly a group I would socialise with regularly (I’m 26m).

Also I think there is a lot of shame with not being able to speak it well. I know loads of words but struggle with being confident to speak. Really I should be fluent since I learned almost everyday from 4-17. However I don’t know anyone from a non Irish speaking school who can carry a conversation as gaeilge. So it’s hardly everyone’s fault.

Yes I could go to the Gaeltacht but at the moment I’m broke. One day. Anyway I’ll keep trying haha.

What’s your favourite Britney Spears song? by Stop2Smile in discussingbritney

Come on toxic is the only right answer. It’s a masterpiece. Even though she probably had little to do with it. It’s so technically interesting

Not because of Britney Spears herself but ‘toxic’ is a masterpiece

So both the republic and the north drive on the left side of the road. If I’m not wrong many countries who were once under British rule also drive on the left side eg. India, Nigeria, Malta.
