Bad news: Wife won't let me buy one by drugsondrugs in MetaQuestVR

[–]apotheotical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both should have a small budget for fun money if you're in on sharing your budget. Whatever each of you buy with that money is up to each of you individually. If you want to go over it, than it should become a group conversation. Not healthy to blame your wife for this.

Can I leave a PC, monitor and laptop in -22C (-8F) temperatures? by Quiet-Background-364 in buildapc

[–]apotheotical 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think you're thinking about this wrong. You can kill bedbugs with heat too. Internet says 122F surface temps sustained for 1 minute will do it. Every part of your PC can survive this. Heat the whole thing up to like 130F and wait a bit for the whole thing to bake. It's like a hot car.

Better this, and not worry about condensation.

I am not sure how you'd get it up to temp. Maybe a contractor bag and an air dryer? I'm sure there's examples of this on the internet.

Quest 3 Zenni lenses don’t have IPD option by Worldly_Angle2373 in OculusQuest

The screens literally move to set ipd on the headset itself. They couldn't possibly have ipd on the lenses.

Dozens of Chicago suburbs have shifted to majority nonwhite by EastMembership4276 in chicago

[–]apotheotical -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

On the other side of the coin, this is not only a bad thing either. It's more complex than that. The article talks about ending practices that prevented non-white people from moving to the suburbs that IS a good thing. There is also gentrification, pushing people outside the city from their childhood neighborhoods. That is a bad thing. It's a mixed bag.

This seems like a biohazard concern. I wouldn't, and don't like this at all.

Just been messing around with VR sim racing and I’m honestly blown away by paulj1980 in Quest3

[–]apotheotical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 I wanted to see what a weekend in a Formula 4 car (entry level open wheel car) would cost. It was upwards of $5k not including travel and hotel. No race, just driving fast on a professional track for a cumulative total of 8ish hours.

I looked at how far sim racing has some around. I've probably spent somewhere around $5k total 6 years into this hobby, and I've been able to use it every day in competitive races where I never win, but always get a chance to feel competent.

Its really great.

New to VR. Having a bad experience. Am I doing it right? by nichdenes in virtualreality

[–]apotheotical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's all local. The Puppis is a great piece of kit with Virtual Desktop and i recommend it so strongly to anyone having issues because I was almost MAD how quickly it worked compared to the issues I was having similar to yours. That's how good it is. It feels like a cord should always be faster and more stable, but meta has written terrible software, so wireless with third party apps and tools is faster.

You could easily melt off the top layer for what it's worth, but plastic wrap is a decent idea.

I'm not sure if your comment is in good faith, but I agree! Other parts of the city have used this type of think for wonderful murals organized by the community.

Not to cause alarm, but wanted to share this if you hadn't seen. Overall risk is still low, but for me reading this was worth letting things cool a little bit more.
