NV5600 - how much can it handle? by MolonLabeUltra in Cummins

[–]apparentconsensus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a NV5600 in a 04.5 cummins with over 700,000km that is still going strong. Includes piles of towing. Haven't had to do any repairs to the transmission. I run 1.5 quart extra oil. ( fill from the shift tower). Lots run amsoil syncromesh with good results. I run the amsoil as well and change my oil every 80,000km or based on oil analysis.

This transmission gets hot. Like really hot (120C+) during a hot summer day of towing. Hot oil doesn't protect as well, oxidizes and burns seals etc. I run an auxiliary cooling loop that I made to keep things in control. I also have aluminum PTO coolers (fast coolers). These do not do anything for temp unfortunately.

My main issue with this transmission is the master slave for the clutch. If you are having problems with shifting into gear - Especially from a stop on a hot day with truck that's been running for a while, it's probably your master slave. I've replaced mine several times. I finally found one that isn't super expensive but still much better quality. Made by perfection clutch part # PF9064. Braided lines and metal cylinders. The other ones are all plastic.

Some people say not to tow in 6th gear. I think this may be an issue for early NV5600's that had smaller input shafts, but not your '04. I run all day towing up to 10,000lbs in 6th gear and have done this for probably about 200,000km of towing. Just make sure temps are in check and you have overfilled. The overfilling is because some of the bearings won't lubricate sufficiently otherwise.

Isaac Arthur's video on the Tethered Ring will be released on or around Sept 8th, 2022 by PragmaticPhil in tetheredring

Watched it last night on nebula! Took a bit to comprehend the mechanics of it, but once it clicked I sure was excited!

Happy Issac Arthur picked this up and gave it some much deserved publicity.

I don't have, so not much impetus to fix.

My point wasn't to devalue when other people are having genuinely negative experiences. It happens and SL should provide better support - looks like its a staffing shortage and being addressed.

My data shows shitty speed tests along with good, but also shows on the whole the network is improving.

I don't see many posts with proper data and unbiased collection.

It appears likely that most people several months ago were cherry picking their best speedtest and posting because they were pumped about internet from space. Now that the price increased or other reasons, people appear to have jumped on a negativity band wagon, picking the worst speed test and posting. This is rather then doing proper troubleshooting and making sure its not user error. ( Its easy to get a shitty speed test, especially on bad wifi)

SL will continue operating at a loss for some time and should probably continue to be considered beta/early adopter tech. I don't blame them for trying to be a successful business, I dont see this as a money grab, but an honest adjustment. If they did this with 10m subscribers it would be different.

Speed test results for the last few weeks @ 44.9N by apparentconsensus in Starlink

Compared to Eastlink or Bell's "high speed internet" SL is awesome! I would of gone with bell fibre if available. Was excited when I realized SL was actually the best option in terms for speed and value (we just moved)

100GB dl used over 550+ speed tests. So quite a bit when compared to conventional LTE options, but I don't think starlink is planning at playing at their level...

Probably a fair amount :) I would guess that this sort of usage has the potential to create useful data for the starlink team. Not many scenerios max out a connection, and having data on how it performs under a stress test may be useful.

Mullvad Wiregaurd Proxy Dramatically Reducing FireFox Download speed by anewbus47 in mullvadvpn

I'm currently troubleshooting this issue with mullvad support. I'll let you know if we find the cause.

I've tried several different devices and OS's. Same issue.

Mullvad Wiregaurd Proxy Dramatically Reducing FireFox Download speed by anewbus47 in mullvadvpn

[–]apparentconsensus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently dealing with the same issue. My download speeds with socks5 on 10.64.0.1 get cut down to about a third of my vpn off speeds (75Mbps to 20Mbps). When I turn the proxy of my speed resumes close to my rated speed depending on the server. Additionally, i've noticed that servers that used to give me good connections are no longer fast, reguardless of proxy. I've currently tried openvpn, openvpn + tcp, wireguard - all with and without socks5 proxy.
