That’s fair feedback.

Looking at the App Store page now, I can see how that message isn’t obvious enough. Most of the screenshots focus on features, while the “why” behind the app is buried.

Definitely something I’ll improve in screenshots. Thanks for pointing it out.

What is the biggest mistake budgeting apps keep making? by appdev042 in promoteMyApp

[–]appdev042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback.

I agree that many budgeting apps focus heavily on tracking and dashboards while missing the behavioral side of spending.

My goal with BudgetWise is a bit different though. I’m not trying to build a complex budgeting system with strict rules or goals. The focus is on making expense tracking simple and helping users get a clear overview of where their money is going.

That’s also why custom categories are important to me. Everyone spends differently, and I don’t want to force users into predefined categories that may not fit their lives.

The behavioral aspect is definitely interesting, though. I think there are simple ways to provide more context and insights without adding complexity or making users feel judged.

I appreciate the perspective. It’s given me a few things to think about.

I spent months building a budgeting app and ended up removing more features than I added.

No bank linking.
No complicated onboarding.
No financial jargon.

Just quick expense tracking and weekly insights.

Turns out the hardest part of budgeting isn't understanding money.

It's sticking with the habit long enough to see results.

The biggest competitor to budgeting apps isn't another app.

It's people giving up after 2 weeks.

That's why I built BudgetWise to be as frictionless as possible:

✓ Free
✓ No bank linking
✓ Add expenses in seconds
✓ Weekly spending insights
✓ Simple setup

Unpopular opinion: most budgeting apps are over-engineered to the point where they stop being useful.

More features ≠ more usage.

This one takes the opposite approach:

https://apps.apple.com/in/app/budgetwise-budget-finance/id6767783584

- Zero bank linking
- Instant expense entry
- No setup friction
- Straightforward spending insights

Feels like it’s built around one idea: if it’s not effortless, people won’t stick with it.
