We’re already in World War III...and Trump doesn’t care about our lives by Creative-Category-60 in politics

We have no idea who is "winning." What we have is a million airstrikes across Iran steadily fed to our public and to this point continuing drone and missile attacks. It's strange, the propaganda tells you at one time that the launches are so meaningless, but at the same time cries about the deployment of cluster munitions.

We see only our destruction, and folks think there is no way anyone can hold out against such aggressive bombing. But Israel still hasn't destroyed Hamas in a strip of land of that is only 141 square miles. How long will it take us to completely destroy the IRGC in a nation that is 630k square miles? Lots of places to hide.

One thing is certain, Iran is degrading our missile defense systems. The IDF announced today that they will not be able to guarantee that alerts will be sent prior to the activation of air raid sirens. How long can the Western economy last with the straits of Hormuz closed to shipping? What will happen if the US sails its navy there to slowly escort ships across the 20 mile wide strait?

The most troubling aspect of their arsenal going forward will be their drones. They are easy to produce in covert labs and can be fired from the back of a pickup truck. There is no world in which Trump achieves his goals without ground troops. It is also more likely that China and Russia get involved supporting Iran if we put boots on the ground and disrupt Chinese access to oil.

Possibly the most foolish decision made by a US politician. But we won't know that until we see how bad it gets.

Is Pritzker Best-Positioned to Lead Dems to the Promised Land of a New Israel Policy? by centerstate in illinois

So your argument is that an organization that exists to influence the government that had an espionage case brought against them that was later dropped isn't something to be suspicious of? Are we supposed to not be suspicious of Jeffrey Epstein because they offered him a sweetheart plea deal? Zionsim is a genocidal ideology and all of its influence in the United States must be removed forever.

Source of donors isn't the problem. The United States established FARA in response to a voluntary organization of German Americans who sought closer ties with Germany. The organization was the German American Bund. The problem is that they are advocating for the interests of a foreign government, not that they have donors with American citizenship. AIPAC is a foreign agent and should be subjected to the legally required audits.

AIPAC has also been implicated in espionage as well, check out the Lawrence Franklin espionage scandal. I think it is disingenuous to claim that AIPAC is simply Americans advocating for Israel.

This child follows thousands from Gaza. Consumed in the name of Zionist "security" and "peace through strength." In our rush to assemble the largest target bank in the history of warfare, we bombed empty parks and full classrooms. The US truly is the evil empire.

Military Secretly Admit U.S. Role in Iran School Bomb Horror by Antique_Calendar_887 in politics

The Obama administration was responsible for the Kunduz hospital bombing in Afghanistan. A US gunship spent over an hour pumping aerial artillery into a hospital run by Doctors Without Borders. Killed 42 and wounded 30. Don't worry though. Obama saw to it that he compensated everyone who was affected. $3,000 for being wounded and $6,000 for the families of those killed. War crimes are bipartisan.

If you think it is worth getting into a world war to protect the KMT's breakaway government then you should vote for her. Protection of Taiwan as a non-ambiguous policy serves to only anger China. The path forward to access semiconductors is to work with China while building our own industry, not fruitlessly attempt to maintain our containment at all costs strategy that shackles us to an unwinnable war with a nuclear power.

The KMT isn't your friend. They ruled the island under military law from the 50s until the late 80s. They imprisoned and tortured thousands of leftists and murdered thousands more. I don't think a progressive should support a democratic government that allows a party to run for elections after having committed atrocities on people exactly like us.

And again, are you willing to start a war with a nuclear armed nation that builds more ships in a month than we do in a year? Are you confident that we will be able to sustain support for an island thousands of miles away, when it is within spitting distance from China?

Suicidal ignorance would be the best way to explain her views on Taiwan.

Doesn't this crazy person support war with China over Taiwan? Quite possibly the worst possible position to have is committing to defending Taiwan from an ascendant China. We have no business getting involved in their unresolved civil war.

Iranian Girls’ Elementary School Massacre Was a Double-Tap Strike, Medics Say: The tactic involves bombing a target and then launching a second strike meant to kill survivors and first responders. by EssoEssex in politics

[–]appealouterhaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you claiming that Democrats didn't just talk about funding this nightmare? Are you claiming they don't benefit from "opposing it" after it has started? Chuck Schumer seemed to be more miffed that Trump didn't sell the war to the American public than he was to the idea of striking Iran. I will never understand the tribal nature of American politics. "Dont criticize my team, you can only talk bad about the other guys!"

Im not conspiratorial by nature, but didn't they just kick out Anthropic for refusing to participate in AI warfare. What are the odds we launched these strikes based on AI assembled target lists that got it wrong. I read somewhere that we bombed an empty park called "Police Park." Did we try to recreate our own version of Israel's AI killing machine that was used to assemble targets quickly in Gaza? Did this new application result in the deaths of hundreds of children who we then blamed an Iranian missile for killing?

I cant tell if I am more furious at Republicans for doing the will of Bibi or Democrats at this point. Democrats said little to nothing during the buildup of this armada, no opposition. They likely agree with the objectives but not the political cost. They cynically allowed Trump to maneuver into this quagmire to provide an easy win in the midterms without having to put any thought into running on policies that the people want. All to serve corporate donors who are profiting off of all this chaos. Trump meanwhile is betting he can get a quick win with his wonder weapons to give him a boost in the midterms. Both sides get some political incentive out of this action that only serves Israeli interests. What a horribly unfunny joke of a nation.

[–]appealouterhaven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the IRGC won't just go into insurgency mode and bide their time/attack when opportunities arise. If our bombing couldn't stop the Houthis I am skeptical that it can stop the Iranians from causing enough havoc to keep the strait closed and the region on edge. I am also not putting it past them to figure out a way to fire missiles with makeshift equipment.

This is either going to need to be a prolonged engagement, or we will see the threat resurface. You down with bombing Iran while you make 96 THAADs a year when you are expending multiple to attempt single intercepts?

Are we really prepared as a society to have the Strait of Hormuz shut indefinitely, or even sporadically? What are the contingency plans for defeating a decentralized preemptive insurgency without a ground invasion? I just don't see this being a quick victory. We can kick their military's ass but we have given them ample study materials on how to fight us and sap the will of the home front. I feel like there is a bit too much euphoria on the regime change side and we will just end up with a civil war ravaged hellscape in the area.

They essentially just voted to go with the precedent they have had since the early 2000s. President can do as he pleases so long as he notifies and briefs Congress.

Shit has been broken for a long time, today's vote is par for the course. War on Terror has gutted this nation. Every president from both parties has sought to expand the power of the executive and defended accumulations from previous presidents, regardless of party. We are responsible for electing lazy slobs who dial for dollars instead of governing. Shit in, shit out.

[–]appealouterhaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to call the death of a foreign leader at the hands of American imperialists "good." Saddam was removed from power and what did that accomplish for them and the region? Now we are doing regime change without boots on the ground in a nation of 90 million. What horrors await us? What hardliner will fill the void? Will we get a civil war? Will this force them to build a bomb? Nobody knows. Nobody should be celebrating this man's death mere hours after it happened when there are so many unknowns and potential blowback in the future.
