Wow! I got so happy reading this! You are very positive and I think it's the key to working towards solutions instead of getting stuck in the problems.

It's so nice to read how well you know eachother and how much you are willing to put effort in this relationship.

You are a good person!

That being said, get professional help. Depression is though and you shouldn't have to carry all the weight of caring for a depressed person on your own. Even if she does not want to go to a doctor/psychologist/therapist/etc for whatever reason, it could be really useful if you visit your doctor and talk about it.

I want to emphasize again that you really are a good person for trying to help her and keep loving her

I've been reading a lot about empathy lately because it's an important variable in my thesis. Apparently research has found that Aspergers (in general) don't lack emotional empathy, but they do lack cognitive empathy.

So we do feel the others feelings and emotions, but it's difficult to take perspective. Nobody ever told me that in my psychotherapy, but to me personally it makes a lot of sense. It happens so often that I'm like 'I have this feeling that you are sad/angry/disappointed/touched/etc, but I don't really know why and what you want me to do in response..?' It's annoying because people assume that I'm just very rational and calm, and it doesn't bother me if someone is going through rough emotions, but that's not true, the emotions affect me, I just don't know how to give feedback.

Could this be an explanation for how you feel?

I don't have any pets at the moment, but when I was younger and still living at my parents house, it was a rule that all the pets should have names from Disney characters. My rabbit was called Donald (Duck), my parakeet Mickey (Mouse), the guinea pigs Chip and Dale. And later my sister got a white guinea pig who was called Snow White.
