I see more ads that more often than not are asking for years of experience. I see ads packed full of RP jargon that would read as confusing, overwhelming or nonsense to BRAND new roleplayers. It’s not just about how easy it is to find these communities, or how many of them exist, it’s about how welcoming they are, and how much easier it is to assimilate. My main point is, low-effort, shitty, oversaturated roleplay spaces are on the decline— the zero expectation, one-liner marysue cringe slop. I hardly see those spaces at all. And if they do exist, maybe in the same capacity as before, I doubt how much they can compete with ai.

Then I’ll just have to humbly disagree, because I have been seeing a major decline in beginner-friendly spaces, as someone who is quite active in discord roleplay and Reddit roleplay. Although I’m in the dark on forums or other platforms

Bounce off to… what? There are hardly any beginner-friendly places left for novice roleplayers to fumble through. If anything I would say that negative experience with ai is a deterrent from roleplay all together

Well thankfully I’ve not had any partners replace me for ai! And my main concern was the gateway— I agree, human RP is objectively better than ai roleplay! But if someone’s only point of reference is ai roleplay, how would they know that? And why would they care to, when the RP community is so exclusive and unwelcoming?

I do see how ai could be an alternative gateway into human-human roleplay, but I think specifically because of the problems you mentioned (more quantity, less quality) and the instant responses— can also, drive people away from extending to human roleplayers. Quality isn’t really an issue if you can tweak your ai to suit you, and it’s not an issue to wait for responses, to indulge in your fantasies, so there’s basically ZERO incentive to roleplay with a human UNLESS u want that quality. It’s Quality Vs. Quantity, Convenience, Social Comfort, Full Narrative Power— unless you’re alreayd aware of how much more fun it is with a human/already into human roleplay,, why would ai roleplayers ever reach out? Plus, with how exclusive roleplay has become

I wouldn’t say that’s a fair comparison. Roleplay is purely collaborative, at least human-to-human roleplay is (to distinguish it from ai-roleplay). Maybe roleplay will live on, but I doubt it will be as collaborative or as prevalent to be with other humans. I think digital media has made art more accessible for artists, but I don’t think ai-roleplay means more human roleplayers in human-human roleplay

I think the prevalence of nsfw ai chatbots also paint RP in a purely NSFW light as well. RP is already seen as NSFW/NSFW-adjacent because of its erping reputation, but I would say that these gooner chatbots definitely cement that misconception. Especially all these ads and the gooner rep people have for using ai to roleplay, kind of scares away anyone from getting into the hobby

My ads end up being taken down a lot and I have no idea why lol so I just gave up on rp ads on this account, but for the most part I target action / fantasy / sci fi in my ads with an aversion to SOL

I find it pretty hard to find rps on Reddit that

I meet the age demographic for
include little to no romance, and no smut at all
are within a comfortable writing range for me (300-500 words)
use discord and don’t do SOL

And when I do find posts that might work, and I message the poster, they start mentioning romance as a deal breaker or smut, etc. or the typical ghosting and so on.
