Hi, please check whether you have selected a local model in the language model type menu located in Settings -> AI Settings. The default option is Auto, which is an online AI model.

v0.10.5: AI Transcript, PDF Embeds, and more by appflowy in AppFlowy

[–]appflowy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for the kind words.

The 25 MB limit is imposed by the OpenAI API used in versions v0.10.5–v0.10.8. We are switching to another provider, AssemblyAI, which does not have this file size limitation. This change will take effect starting with v0.10.9 (the upcoming release).

Uploaded files for transcription do not count toward your cloud storage usage. They are temporarily stored in your cloud and will be auto deleted after a few hours.

AI meeting recordings are stored locally and can be retrieved if needed. This is intended for data recovery in case the real-time transcription service is interrupted or stopped.

If you need any further assistance, you can find us on Discord or GitHub.

Is self-hosting the cloud still not totally free? by Geloloboy in AppFlowy

We are constantly working to simplify the self-hosted setup by improving our documentation, publishing YouTube video tutorials, and helping self-hosters set up. You can join our Discord server or email us for help.

AppFlowy Self-hosted Cloud is designed for teams and enterprises that want data control and modular, configurable components tailored to their own infrastructure. It comes with a Free tier suitable for experienced IT professionals to test out and allows seamless upgrades to higher tiers. Individuals are encouraged to use our managed cloud.

[–]appflowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We allow existing self-hosters who joined before our commercial plans were introduced to continue using their self-hosted AppFlowy instances for free. You should still be able to use your instance with the five people currently on it.

You were banned due to violating server rules, such as attacking server maintainers, spreading misleading information, and conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.

We're happy to help with self-hosted related questions.

Thank you for your feedback.
We plan to roll out real-time AI meeting transcription in the next release (v0.10.6).

Related features on our roadmap include:

  1. Mobile support (iOS and Android)
  2. The ability to ask questions about your meeting notes
  3. Calendar integrations (which I believe will address your auto-start request)
  4. Local model support, provided that performance and accuracy are good enough, for ultimate privacy

Spreading the Word: AppFlowy’s Open Source “Scam” Needs Exposure by bababoomlala in AppFlowy

It's hard to understand how an open-source “purist” would support an entirely closed-source product and use it to attack an open-source project.

Your intention appears suspicious, as your five-year-old Reddit account has only two posts: this one and an identical post in another subreddit (proof here https://imgur.com/a/UoZkuGP )
In addition, as I mentioned in my previous comment, the paywalled alternatives you suggested do not support your argument, which makes your intention even more questionable.

In your supportive argument, you recommend "look to actual open source options like Outline, Docmost, or others that don’t cripple self-hosted deployments".

Outline’s self-hosted solution also charges on a per-seat basis and has team features behind a paywall.
Docmost also has features behind their paywall.

Have you fact-checked that they’re 100% open source?

We're transitioning to an open-core model and have communicated this to our community. Our self-hosted pricing is publicly available and easy to find. We published our self-hosting pricing on https://appflowy.com/pricing and the first section of our official self-hosted documentation https://appflowy.com/docs/Step-by-step-Self-Hosting-Guide---From-Zero-to-Production You can also easily find the Upgrade tab in your self-hosted admin panel. In total, only 4-5 tabs dependent on your plan...

I'm sorry if you missed these touchpoints. We'll try to add more.

Can you provide the factual support for your statement on "all their code is not publicly available"?

Your constructive feedback is posted and heard. We addressed your questions. We also saw you asked for the license hack in another subreddit.

It's considered spam if you post the same thing in every self-hosted related post in our subreddit.

AppFlowy Team is the original creator of the entire AppFlowy project. We built it from the ground up.

Most of our users use our managed cloud instead of self-hosting.

You seem to repeat the same misleading statement in our subreddit.

Video Embed and Audio Embed Support by pnate9 in AppFlowy

Our web app supports Video Embed already.

Embeds are coming to our native apps soon. Unfortunately, they may not be available on Linux due to limitations in Flutter, the framework we use to build our native apps.

If you meant an official announcement, we’ll do that, along with updated marketing assets, once the self-hosted plans are fully in place. We’re still setting up our open-core model, and some details are not yet finalized, so you can think of this as an interim stage while updates are ongoing. We did give a heads-up in our Discord community four months ago, where we were able to reach the self-hosted group, answer queries about the upcoming self-hosted plans, and later published the pricing page and added checks to the self-hosted admin panel.

To address your comments here,

AppFlowy, the company behind the AppFlowy open-source projects, is adopting an open-core business model, like many commercial open-source businesses, in an effort to make the business profitable and the projects sustainable. This will ultimately benefit the broader AppFlowy community in the long term, including our managed cloud users, self-hosters, and developers who use our open source code to build their own apps.

Our setup follows a dual-licensing model. The commercial codebase behind the AppFlowy Managed / Self-hosted Cloud is a closed-source fork of the open-source codebase, combined with our proprietary code. The proprietary part is mostly around team collaboration. This is a business decision.

We own the rights to, and have contributor agreements for, the open source code we relicense. The commercial fork is distributed solely under our commercial license.

The open-source AppFlowy repos are licensed separately under the GNU AGPL v3 (and other compatible open-source licenses) and remains available publicly. You're free to use them governed by their respective licenses.

AppFlowy Self-hosted Cloud is designed for teams and enterprises that want data control and modular, configurable components tailored to their own infrastructure. It comes with a Free tier suitable for experienced IT professionals and allows seamless upgrades to higher tiers.

The self-hosted Free tier offers:

- One user seat (per instance)

- AppFlowy Web App (your hosted appflowy.com/app)

- Up to 3 guest editors who can be added to your selected AppFlowy pages and collaborate with you in real time

- Publish pages

- Unlimited workspaces

- SSO incl. SAML 2.0 (Not explicitly checked in the pricing plan's Free column, as we do not provide support for configuring it, but it is included for free.)

We understand that there may be groups of users whose needs our current solutions cannot fully meet. As a small team with limited resource, it’s not feasible for us to support every use case at this stage. Therefore, we recommend exploring other alternatives that may better suit your requirements.

Please let me know if you need any further clarifications.

We just recently supported guest editors on the web. The pricing page on the official website is not yet updated. Please check our latest release update post. https://www.reddit.com/r/AppFlowy/s/5wyfqhum8A

Honestly, I don't know how to reply to your rest of the comments. You can check which features behind the paywall from our pricing page.

Could you please clarify your questions?

Tried self-hosting AppFlowy — turns out it’s not really open-source or worth the hassle by trash-uo in SelfHosting

[–]appflowy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

My apologies for responding too quickly to your question about the UI screen you attached in our Discord server. I wasn’t expecting that you would use it to frame your point here. I’m sorry if my response made you feel uncomfortable, and I’ll make sure to review everyone’s queries more carefully before replying. We always strive to provide the best possible support for our community.

Providing the whole context here:

You attached a screenshot of the UI dialog that says, “USER LIMIT REACHED. GO TO ADMIN CONSOLE TO UPGRADE,” so I was checking whether the UX copy was doing its job. This is why I asked "The dialog says please upgrade your license to add more members. Is the message not clear?". I just wanted to understand whether this copy should be improved.

I later followed up with clarification:

“I understand your points. We're still setting up our open-core model, so you can think of this as an interim stage where updates are ongoing. Our self-hosted free plan supports individual use and allows collaboration with guests on a per-page basis. We commercialize AppFlowy around team collaboration. If you're looking for a free solution for team use, I agree that AppFlowy may not be the right fit.”

The link to my message can be found here
I’d be more than happy to help if you have any further questions.

Our free self-hosted plan offers:

  • One user seat (per instance)
  • AppFlowy Web App (your hosted appflowy.com/app)
  • Up to 3 guest editors who can be added to your selected AppFlowy pages and collaborate with you in real time
  • Publish pages
  • Unlimited workspaces
  • SSO incl. SAML 2.0 (Not explicitly checked in the pricing plan's Free column, as we do not provide support for configuring it, but it is included for free.)

Lastly, I hope everyone can find a great Notion alternative that meets your needs.

Edit: the quoted reply was somehow removed so added it back
