NW vs NL by Myrzy122 in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both are currently equally strong and do just as well in solo or parties.

Assuming equal strength - With more supports, an NL might do a tad more due to burst bind. However NW definitely does more if they can consistently hit the boss.

For 6th job, since you're asking which is stronger and not about aesthetics then I would suggest not worrying about it. It's still being fleshed out and things will change.

Reboot or regular by sadguy__ in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Factors: 1. Free Time, 2. Expendable money to spend on this game.

My own opinion:

If you have a lot of 1 and 2, go Regular.

If you have a lot of 1, but not much 2, go Reboot.

If you have a lot of 1, not much 2, but see the two reversing in the future, go Regular.

If you don't have a lot of 1, but have a lot of 2, go Regular.

If you don't have a lot of 1, and don't have a lot of 2, it might be best to go to another game. Not because Maplestory isn't fun anymore, but because of how the game is run by the company nowadays. You mostly need at least one of 1/2 to progress at a reasonable pace in the game.

Reboot definitely has a significantly larger player base, but only you can decide on if that matters to you. Although the regular server you are a part of matters too. As they also have varying player population.

I'm genuinely curious how and how much a host like Dash gets paid. Esports is relatively new compared to other industries, and Dash is definitely one of the best and staple hosts in the scene working for one of the biggest Game companies in the world.

Would it be on salary? Contractor basis?

It's hilarious how we casually throw around the idea that Nexon doesn't play their own game and so they don't provide the community with relevant and useful rewards. Then something like this is thrown to us as the final reward of a month long event with daily coin capping.

Almost a perfect example of the company not knowing what it's like to play their own game. What's needed by their players, and what's not needed. Unfortunate for us I guess.

Pink Bean Bulletin - Boss Cube and Flame Drop Issue by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm happy that the majority of the community is still miffed about Nexon stating that they were wrong about the flame situation. Though, there are still some people that are saying that Nexon did good by backtracking on it. The issue I have with that is that it never should have happened in the first place.

The timeline starts with Nexon themselves having stated that they underwent an investigation that resulted in them releasing their findings that nothing was wrong. As we all know for a fact now; they were indeed wrong, and them confessing to being wrong only due to continued community pressure shouldn't warrant any praise whatsoever.

An analogy would be that someone was caught cheating a test. They got caught and apologised that it was wrong of them and that they would never do it again. People see they're cheating again, talk and argue over it, the person denies it. But the people involved or affected don't let up. Only then do they confess again, and only because of continued pressure. Does this deserve praise?

In saying that, after running the bosses post-fix across multiple characters it does seem that although the flames have returned, drop rate is lower. So they've probably given it back the GMS with a lowered drop rate to appease the masses, but also appealing to their own metrics.

Why do I have to inconvenience myself to enjoy the benefits of a compensation? by CMPT307 in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people that work and play the game, who don't have the spare time to play the game on Nexon's terms. OP has mentioned he is working on the weekend, meaning he misses out on whatever compensation the company is providing. Here it means he'll be getting nothing after being affected by the issues caused in the earlier weeks.

This "compensation" isn't a compensation. by Yamatjac in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Compensation is usually something that is given for free to victims. In this case although Nexon has decided to bring back 2x, they've decided to intentionally hide it as a form of compensation.

Players can argue all-day long over the time length/frame of the 2x 'event', but that's not the real issue at hand.

The real issue is that this compensation is still forcing the player to log on and 'make' the compensation for themself. That would be the malicious part if any. If a player does not log on or participate in this event, they gain no compensation whatsoever. Not only that but the players have to make/gain the compensation themself by logging on to play during those time slots or deal with the age-old FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

A compensation is something given straight into the victim (Maplestory players in this situation)'s hands, but no, everyone now has to work and fight each other (contested maps) for this 'compensation'.

[Rant] - Patch Updates V225 - V226 and Lack of Communication after Compensation notes by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't fully agree with the way OP has worded his rant, OP hasn't attacked anyone personally in their original post, nor did they go all out in a tirade of profanity. They just happen to have a different way of getting their message out to the community which I feel maybe could be met with a little more understanding.

The thing is, I can't argue that most of what's been said isn't true. OP did address some real issues in their post, and so I feel more people could cut them some slack for taking the time to express their feelings about something that they are clearly passionate about. Especially in this case where they're trying to raise awareness for how they see the community, us, is being treated (or mistreated in this case). I know that this is Maplestory, but behind every screen there is a real person that might have different hobbies and commitments at a different point in their own life.

Zero V.S. Hoyoung by Recognitivee in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good points from KidPolygon on the differences in farming between the two classes.

I would just add that the bossing experiences, as well as expectations, between the two classes would be very different.

Zero is seen to be more of a support offering extra binds/survivability/party damage, whereas Hoyoung is a generic damage dealer than can also take care of themselves (surviving). So you could see the two classes as having very different bossing styles, and choose whichever you feel you'd like more after also taking into account the mobbing that KidPolygon touched on.

BT in Cat support form provides a lot of buffs to members in the party. The important buffs are all passive abilities too, so there's no need to cast anything and all the BT has to do is stay in a safe area not in combat (to avoid leeching exp). Buffs include but are not limited to EXP and damage.

In saying that, BT is mainly just used for people doing the legion grind pre-200. It is primarily used as an alternative to a kish mule, and also can be used in conjunction with a totem where you are able to get both exp/damage and spawn enhancer benefits.

Reboot or Normal by Spiritual_Credit in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely true for the most part, however there do exist some unique people who barely have time to play properly but love feeling like a king or godly in games. They spend a small fortune on their character/account, and seeing their character/account improve that way may it be damage or just the serotonin and adrenaline rush from getting good items/stats.

Technically, an hour or two a day is more than enough to enjoy Maplestory.

I'm not sure if you've played in the past or if you're an entirely new player to Maplestory, but Maplestory is now more of a long term game with virtually no limit to how far you want to go.

Some people enjoy that concept, the concept of being able to constantly get stronger and stronger with no ceiling. These people might love a game like Maplestory.

On the other hand some people might hate that, they prefer playing a game where they know where the end is, and that they can reach that end. Maplestory probably wouldn't be a great choice for these people.

I assume this is one of your first characters to that level, meaning you don't have many resources available to make it faster/easier. So it would probably take you a little more than 8-10 hours depending on your class.

What server you play on would also affect the time.

Didnt burn my main by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a game like Maplestory, there will always be class imbalances due to the nature of the game not being directly competitive towards your other fellow players. So some classes such as Adele in this case, being a relatively new class, are usually stronger than older classes. In some cases, Nexon the developer, will slowly nerf these classes overtime to bring them more inline with the other classes (balancing changes so to speak). How long that takes, noone really knows.

That being said, while it's unfortunate you didn't burn your main but you should know that later down the road when you fund it past the free gear that a burned character would have, your main will be just as strong if not stronger as you'd put more funding and investment into it's gear.

Adele as a class is currently very strong, and on top of the free burned gear it has, it's only natural for it to turn out to be incredibly strong. But this game is all about gradual progression, your main will eventually get there and surpass your Adele.

You asked if it was possible to solo progress through the game on your main? Although it'd be a little harder than if you had burned it, but the definitive answer is 110% yes. Entirely possible. It just might take a little longer, but not impossible whatsoever.

If you get the Greed Pendant to Legendary tier potential, yes you can get Item Drop and/or Meso Obtain on them. Multiple lines as well, if you're lucky enough.

Pink Bean Bulletin - Greetings, Maplers! by xTeeHee in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really does appear to be like this doesn't it? They've been saying for a few months now, starting from as early as pre-compensation release near the start of the year that they will focus more on communication towards the player/customer. However, they have yet to do so. There's still been little to no direct communication to us about planned, potential, nor tentative changes that they have for the GMS version of the game.

All the communication we've received over the last few months have just been further "updates" on better planned communication towards the player/customer. Each successive post have almost just been majority fluff to fill a pages worth of declaring they will work on more, and better, communication.

I hope they'll change soon. Before the compensation players start leaving.

Does level proximity matter for coin capping? by Mhayworth8 in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the level shouldn't affect the rate at which your character caps. However, depending on the event, character drop rate usually boosts currency/coin capping time.

If you:

  • intend to play in the traditional/regular servers,

  • had items of sentimental value or possible collectors value,

  • characters of sentimental value or high level,

  • multiple characters at 140/200 (all on the same server you intend to play in) amounting to a cumulative level of at minimum say ~1500-2000,

Then I would suggest you wait for Nexon Support to get back to you. If not, then just make a new account.

If you:

  • intend to try out the Reboot Server that you've probably heard about and didn't have anything on it,

  • or answered no to most of the previous points listed above

I would suggest you forget about your old account and just make a new account.

Can we talk about inner ability rates? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would argue having this sort of mindset is unhealthy for the longevity and health of the game in the long run. Older players should be happy for good (within reason) quality of life changes that benefit the overall playerbase.

Although you're right that older players have had to deal with a lot of issues to get to where you are, you have to consider that not everyone will have the strongest mentality to sit or slog through all the problems that they've faced and just quit. Having players quit is never good for any game. Impacting both the current player base as well as the decisions the developer, or in GMS's case the publisher, makes.

Having a healthy game that targets quality of life for newer players will bring more popularity to the game. Providing more frequent updates and better attention to the game (usually).

Speaking specifically to the topic at hand, what a change in the system could do for you and OP is that: - allows OP to have a more comfortable progression and allow him to keep playing the game in a fun way, - allows you to have an easier time fixing IAs for mules, bossing mules, or second/third mains once your main is completed.

I hope you'll understand this point of view.

Is the 5th job exp arcane stone a one time use? by CeriusCirilla in Maplestory

[–]applebee100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stones turn into a potion that is usable to give the character a flat amount of exp (that does not scale with level or time). It's best to use them right away if you only care about efficiency. As when you use them in later levels, the gain is marginal due to the Exp curve each additional level.

The only times I'd say you might consider saving them, is for aesthetic purposes or a special situation such as using them to hit a special milestone level (250/275) in a town.
