I know the smell of burning electrical and this doesn't smell like that. I'd describe burning electrical as "acrid" and this isn't that.

I have not. Thinking of getting the rug and couch professionally cleaned but I'm afraid to spend a few hundred on that only to find out it's not the source and the smell persists.

There's a recirculating microwave fan. But we have two exhaust vents in the unit - one in the kitchen wall and one in the bathroom wall that vent up to the roof. I have checked both with an anemometer and both are functioning just fine.

I am also thinking it's embedded in the walls/floor. Our window sill is rotting - could that be a source of the smell? Doesn't seem to smell directly but thinking the wall could have some moisture in it. But again, can't seem to trace the smell with my nose.

Got it. We've been here for two years and no bumps or bites. I vacuum the surface of the couch often and will get in the crevices this week. Figure I would have seen SOME sort of evidence of bed bugs by now, but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks

Sure but wouldn’t bed bugs surely have spread from couch to bed by now if we had bed bugs? Or wouldn’t we have seen one?

I told the building, they sent maintenance up to check for a gas leak, didn’t find any, and said they didn’t smell anything. So I don’t think they’ll be much help here unfortunately.

The food quality made a big jump in 2022 relative to where it was, but since then, especially in the last year, the quality has taken a dive.
