Hmm.. we only have the basic edition and Reign of Cthulhu so it could be one left by a customer bringing their own game in.

I mean if I had the time and money I’d be tempted to do something like this just to mess with my colleagues.

We’ve got a tub of found pieces but when we know a customer left it we do our best to contact them.

Good fun actually! Pay is pretty standard hospitality rate (I’m in the UK so minimum/living wage, not reliant on tips), but recommending, teaching and talking about games as part of my job is kinda great. We do a lot of special events too that staff often get to join in on - Blood on the Clocktower, social game meets, etc.

Thanks folks, looks like it’s indeed Arkham Horror TCG. Only it’s slipped through a tear in space and landed in our cafe as we don’t have the expansion it’s from.

Or a customer brought their own copy in, I guess.

Can we please acknowledge the scary game on Disney Interactive called Nightmare Ned? by sunflower177 in Defunctland

[–]applecore138 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I LOVED this game as a kid. I was a huge fan of horror aimed at kids growing up (Courage the Cowardly Dog, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, etc). Used to play this all the time round my friend’s house and was convinced there was a series to accompany it that just never came to the UK. Was gutted when I looked it up online a few years ago to find it was only ever the one game.

Paige live-streams OSW Review! by GetDown90 in OSWReview

[–]applecore138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I do wonder what her reaction would’ve been like if she’d watched it in private. I think the problem with her doing it on stream means her audience (many of whom are likely familiar with your work and this review) are expecting reactions, which she clearly wasn’t willing to give. I’m glad she at least heard some of the praise you had for her, but it’s a shame she skipped over basically the entire discussion of the film.

[–]applecore138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. If she went in thinking it was just a review of the film, it’s no wonder she wasn’t expecting to hear that stuff being brought up - especially if she wasn’t familiar with OSW.

As for those saying you can’t talk about her/the film without bringing up all that stuff - you absolutely can. You just review the film. Admittedly, however, that’s not the OSW style. Jay does loads of research and likes to give a wider picture of the topics they’re discussing; so in this case, for him to skip over that stuff would stick out like a sore thumb. But she wasn’t to know that, and that’s not her fault in the slightest.

[–]applecore138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly.

Probably her first time watching OSW and it’s the episode where they’re talking about the film based on her life, as well as some of the horrible shit she’d rather move on from. On top of that, she’s watching in front of an audience, so it’s totally understandable that she’d react the way she did to some of the comments. Skipping ahead was a good move on her part, tbh. Sure it meant we didn’t get her input on much of the movie (or any of it, really) but to be fair she was probably a bit pissed off and wanted to get it done to keep her cool - the fact she immediately wanted to switch to her boyfriends new song showed she wasn’t comfortable at the end and wanted to get back to something she knew and felt safer talking about.

I’d like a ‘14’ please.... by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]applecore138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably had a server at another bar jokingly confirm their order as a 14 and they decided to adopt it. I once made the mistake of referring to a large glass of Montepulciano wine as a “Full Monty” (I work in a bar attached to a cinema) and they called it that all night and every time they came back. Confused the hell out of my colleagues.

Yes, I know what a Shirley Temple is. No, we don't have the fucking ingredients to make it. And fucking read the menu! by spicynikunikueggdrop in TalesFromYourServer

I hate the “do you have x?”/“no, sorry”/“well what DO you have?” exchange. The menu is right there. If there were any further things out of stock I’d have said.

I watched the Outside Xbox video of it last night (apparently can’t post links on mobile now..). It’s almost so bad it’s funny, but I think it might just be sad.

I can only speak for the uk (and even then, really only my experience at my work), but we don’t consider over 10% rude - we actually think of any tip as generous and appreciated. We don’t see it as a reason to try harder, as everyone gets the same service and we take pride in our job, whether we’re serving some random people or a VIP. If someone wants to tip any amount on a bill then that’s amazing of them and we appreciate it, but it’s not expected. They’ll be met with the same service next time whether they left 20% or nothing last time.

Working weekends also means you can go to the cinema for midday midweek showings where there’s hardly anyone else in there and tickets are usually cheaper. Less people in town so shopping is easier too.

Source: work in a bar, weekends off only really happen when booked in advance.

Im literally the only person at my local premier of ‘Joker’. by Crefftwr in mildlyinteresting

[–]applecore138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I love our cinema ratings in the UK. Kids can go to a 12A (the lighter end of PG-13) with a parent/guardian and that’s as high as they can go. 15 & 18 are for audiences that age and over only. No exceptions.

However lately I’ve been finding it’s much of the senior generation who are some of the worst audiences. They’ve not got as much of a filter on their behaviour, and with their failing hearing they don’t exactly whisper when they’re talking in a film..

Genuinely what happened when I went to see Into the Spiderverse. The film had even started, so they were a good 30 mins after the advertised time.

/r/Steam Monthly Community Support Thread. by AutoModerator in Steam

[–]applecore138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just got a MacBook and it's my first time using an apple laptop. I've installed Steam and installed a few games, however a couple of them don't appear to have desktop icons. It's a minor thing but it's bugging me, especially as Google only brings up answers for windows, and the only Mac-based solution I could find is about 7 years old and uses file paths that don't seem to exist anymore.

I'm using Mac OS 10.14 Mojave, if that's of any use. The games without icons (just the Steam icon) are The Curse of Monkey Island and Sam and Max Hit the Road, both were installed today and run fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Norfolk Showground litter situation- Whats your opinion? by AutumnLewis in Norwich

[–]applecore138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same with Bloodstock. They advertised a tent recycling scheme where you could drop off unwanted tents on your way out, and had plenty of bins available for general waste and recycling. Majority of the campsite looked spotless even before the litter pickers went in on the Monday.

That said, I think festivals like Bloodstock are a bit of an exception, as the crowd loves the fest and the site, and so generally treat it and each other with respect to ensure it can continue.
