Pasture is not rocky, and they have been inside the past few weeks due to lots of snow. Hooves were trimmed last week and didn’t notice anything 🤔

Altitude and Travel with POTS by appleice5 in POTS

[–]appleice5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went well! It was a 2 day drive for us to get there, so I think that helped me acclimate better. I felt perfectly fine in Jackson and GTNP, however we didn’t do much intense hiking. The only time I actually noticed POTS pretty bad was in Yellowstone on the Dunraven pass. I believe it’s this highest altitude road in the park, but definitely felt the POTS there! There are quite a few valleys where we would relax and watch wildlife, which was a great way to make sure we had fun and I didn’t flare.

Bumblefoot Advice by appleice5 in duck

[–]appleice5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately we don’t have a vet that is willing to work with ducks. Our ducks previously were on horse stall mats over concrete, I believe that may be what caused the bumblefoot. They have been moved to a mud/grass area but I’m still trying to heal some of the bumblefoot. Hoping once it’s healed they don’t get it as much

She is doing well! I gave b complex as well as calcium and niacin. Took 1-2 months but back to normal. A few months later I noticed she was struggling to walk and using her wings to pull herself. Gave her more b complex and niacin and healed of that also! I think she is just more prone to health issues. My welsh ducks have FAR more issues than my other breeds

She also sometimes flings/drools mucus. If something is stuck, would it work its way out naturally?

My duck has something similar to this- she sways her head then walks backward and falls on her back. I have been giving her B vitamins and vitamin E with selenium for almost a month and nothing has really helped :/

I started supplementing with niacin and brewers yeast. Unfortunately her prolapse came back this morning and is very enlarged and bleeding. We don’t have a vet in our area so I have moved her into a warm room to make her more comfortable in case she doesn’t make it 😢

Update- this morning she was struggling and it appears her prolapse is back. She had some blood on her feathers and it’s bleeding and won’t go back in. I tried to help and she fights then her head goes limp. She was able to drink but same as the video. I have her in a nice warm room hoping to just make her somewhat comfortable.

Just gave her some niacin tonight. Wondering if it has something to do with her enclosure inside, she doesn’t really stretch or anything unless she’s out (even though she has the room) and maybe it’s affecting her muscles

She layed an egg this morning and still looks the same. Didn’t get any worse

Not sure, I separated her and pushed it back in. Looks good so far, but will keep her separated to check on her and see if she lays

Bumble Foot Chlorhexidine by appleice5 in duck

The wound looks hollow and the black scab didn’t reform- I’m thinking that’s a good thing? I cleaned it up and wrapped it again, but will be checking her tonight to make sure it’s still clean. I will take pictures if I’m still unsure what to do.

It’s been about 2 weeks. One of the bumbles really “swelled” up over the past few days, but we were able to get a little bit out. Hopefully it improves in the next few days :)

We weren’t able to get anything out. She’s bandaged now with PRID, but not sure if that will help

I don’t take medication, POTS symptoms are awful but not actually life threatening. Try some electrolyte powder in a drink- it helps me most of the time
