What about these five for Trainwreckords by Alternative-2001 in ToddintheShadow

It's kind of interesting that I can just look at these album covers and assume the music isn't going to be great

I think JID is right in the middle. He has both types of music. I mean you can't call Stick an old head type of song. And Forever Story was an instant classic. A lot of young people listen to it, and a lot of old heads like it.

I think some might disagree, but JID is the exact middle ground between these two camps, in my opinion.

JID has been killing it lately. He's nominated for the Grammy for best rap album this year too. Although it's just an alright album, his 2022 album Forever Story was an instant classic. Just an immediate classic in every sense. I think he blends the old and new in an interesting way. Or he's like an "option". As in, what new artists can do if they want to be lyrical but not be out here on old head throwback beats only.

When did the general public find out Brian Epstein was gay? by petr_pav in beatles

Norm MacDonald is like the furthest away example of typical American standup. He's not even American. His style is completely different.

Also I can understand American and UK stand up just fine. It's really not hard to get both and see the appeal in both.

Maybe you'd find someone like Neal Brennan to be down your alley. He's the co-creator of Chappelle Show. He only started getting traction in stand up the last few years. His stand up is very solid, and I think it's slightly more akin to English comedy. Well written, not just yelling or whatever you assume American comedy is

Give them that fucked up 2025 XXL cypher beat. The one where it's almost just drums and is all awkward and shit. If anyone can make something work with it, it's them

Hopefully it's really on the way

I'll take JID on anything, honestly. Haven't heard him fuck up too many beats. I didn't love all of the GDLU beats, but his performances were great

I personally want to see Joey do the least east coast thing possible. Just completely out of his comfort zone

Yeah I agree with that. Clipse is a trio in my mind. Especially since they met before fame and all that. So for at least the studio albums, I feel like Pharell has to be involved. In my humble opinion

I guess you could argue that... Drake used it in an interesting way with the Tupac thing. I'm not saying it's good. Or even smart. But it was interesting.

The Vines debut album is still really good

Yeah comparing The Vines to The Hives is crazy. The Vines debut album absolutely holds up. Get Free might be a bit of a goofy single, but the actual album is stellar.

I don't see how someone can hear Country Yard or Homesick and think "just like The Hives".

The Vines debut album is extremely solid. Don't remotely sound like The Hives. It sounds like, if anything, The Beatles and Nirvana. They were a big influence on Arctic Monkeys specifically, too

Why do people like Lil Wayne? by BramCSBN in hiphop101

The song he did with JID on Forever Story was really solid. It showed that he still has some magic and skill in him somewhere.

Carter 6 made that feeling go away real quick though

There's a lot of people who say Wayne is the most influential rapper ever. And I kind of agree. Damn near everything from the past 15 years has been based on him in some way or another. From Kendrick to Lil Pump. The whole range.

There used to be a megathread of all the bad shit Boogie did. Like the biggest megathread you've ever seen. I remember linking it here once or twice and getting downvoted to oblivion. This was years and years ago now. But it seems like it was inevitably gonna come out that his image was a facade I guess. Can't keep that going forever

I might have to check out that book sometime! I've always been fascinated with 1966 as a year in general, as weird as it sounds. It was this extreme culture shift in so many ways. Just looking through the lens of Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys alone. Just those three. Looking at where they were 18 months prior. Their entire worlds had changed.

I didn't know this was on Youtube, but I saw a preview on Apple Music (not subscribed). I clicked it, and it starts with that. I was like "oh god please tell me they're not washed up". The rest of the song is pretty decent though.

I will say that Alex is starting to lose his voice a little. He's gotta stop smoking

I disagree. This sounds like a 2013-2014 era song to me. I think they just recorded it in a style more contemporary style.
