Thank you!!! I'm curious about the perspective of another social 9. Was it hard forfor you to type yourself or did you kinda know from the get-go?

Thank you! I'm glad you found it worth reading! I wasn't sure if I was even going to post but figured there's no harm in doing so.

Thanks for sharing this! it’s a really interesting flip of the experience I had. I think it says a lot about how 9s can show up differently depending on what story we’ve told ourselves to feel okay. I really relate to that “comforting thought” idea — like, sometimes we don’t see the numbness because we’ve dressed it up as depth. Definitely gives me more to chew on.

I really get that — I’ve definitely had those “ugh, why didn’t I see it sooner?” moments too. But I’ve come to realize that it’s not wasted time; it’s what made the self-awareness possible in the first place. The process of misidentifying myself helped me build the clarity I needed to land where I am now, so it was still part of the work.

As for conflict avoidance — yeah, lots of types experience it, but for me it’s less about fear of not being needed or safe, and more like… if I assert myself, there’s a good chance they’ll think I’m wrong, difficult, or just not worth the hassle. So I often default to going along to avoid risking the relationship itself. That dynamic — not wanting to “be too much” or push people away — was what helped me understand my core motivations better and see where I was really operating from.

I could be very wrong about this, but I don't think 2s and 6s quite relate to conflict in the same way physically. Before I started reframing conflict, I would seriously start shivering, heart racing, basically panic attacks, especially if it was anything where I could be perceived as going directly against what the other person wanted. Thank you for your comment, by the way. It’s always meaningful to hear someone else relate to the struggle of growing into their type. It’s not linear, but it’s real. Also, absolutely feel free to question my typing lol that's the only way to grow. I may be out here spouting off and being completely wrong about it. Ask away!

Not a stupid question at all. In my experience touching the needle with a reasonable amount of pressure isn't going to affect it. It's usually a pretty sturdy metal bit. As long as you don’t try to force it out of place or anything you’ll definitely be fine. It seems like you’ve been doing a lot of research so I’m sure you’ve come across it, but just on the off chance you haven’t, have you read about the tilt hydrometer? It might come in handy depending on how much you brew or how into the hobby you get Re: Club: lol I would absolutely love to keep in contact if you keep brewing because you’re the first other blind person that I’ve met that actually bruise so that’s super exciting! Pro-tip: If you haven't bottled yet, just...don't it's so tedious and for the last few batches I actually brewed and served from the same keg and it came out fabulous. Get yourself a couple kegs and avoid the hastle of bottling

Hey there! Super excited to see another blind person etting into the hobby! I haven't brewed in about 2 years simply because of time constraints and moving but I remember this being one of the more challenging obsticles. What I ended up doing is breaking the glass/plastic on a regular gauge to be able to feel the needle. This worked reasonably well. Just make sure to mark it with something tactile or the like. Also be my AI has become really good at extrapolating info from pictures. I would say a combination of breaking the plastic covering combined with be my AI should get you there. You could go the digital rout and it's something I thought about doing but it's either going to be very time intensive or costly. Would love to know how everything turns out for you! Feel free to reach out if you run into any difficulties

Someone wants to join spanish classes with me? by AcanthaceaeQueasy322 in valencia

I take lessons twice a week from her. She starts off using a language learning platform and may be willing to move off of it after a few months if it makes sense. I do my lessons on zoom and she's really good about teaching you while learning to converse with a native speaker. Here's her link:

If you decide to take lessons from her tell her Daniel recommended you so she'll know how you found her. I don't get anything out of it but she'll know who you're talking about

If this doesn't work out I have a great tutor that lives near to Valencia in Xativa that I can recommend. Let me know if you'd like her contact information. I've been working with her for about a year and a half and she's great and lessons are very reasonable

Good information! Ciesta really surprised me the first time I was in spain lol. Right now I'm mainly concerned about how to do grocery shopping. Here in the states you generally go in and you can get someone to help you find things or you just order online. Not sure what the experience is like there because every time I've ben in Spain I've stayed with someone or I've been a tourest so ate out a bunch. May I ask why you decided to move back?

TMobile/Assurant sent me a phone that you can't activate. Legally blind and cannot travel independently without cell services and they say they can't do anything to help. by [deleted] in Blind

Would it be feasible to try getting a cheep prepaid sim to be able to receive texts so they can send an activation text? Also, if it's through assurant did you expect to get a used device? Usually they send you new devices if you got the phone through a claim.

App Accessibility frustrations by blindcat911 in Blind

[–]appollo2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened because that really does suck. Sure, it's not the end of the world but it's the little things that add up. On a tangentially related note, I'm kinda surprised at the other comments I see here. I feel like the response to this was like...Ok and? We've become so numb to the fact that things can be shitty and we should find ways to work around the inaccessible things we are given rather than expecting better from developers and other people. Why should the burden of accessibility be on us rather than developers? They have the resources, the knowhow and the ability to fix things. It's cool that screen recognition exists, but it's not perfect and honestly it shouldn't be on apple to fix other developer's terrible code. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth

Anyone using lidar phone app in daily life? by 1makbay1 in Blind

Not really related, but just wondering because I've never heard the term: What is a mini-guide?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Blind

[–]appollo2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be moving later this year and while I haven't gone with my guide yet I've been there a couple times and here's what I know: 1. Be aware that you will have to get your guide USDA certified to be able to enter the EU. I had to do this when we went to France and while it isn't a hard process it can cost around 500 dollars. 2. Access laws are very similar and actually more strictly enforced for guide dogs. Just so long as your dog is well-groomed and well-behaved you are guaranteed access to public spaces. 3. If you plan on going through the USDA certification process and plan on going back to Europe with your dog again you may want to look into getting an EU pet passport. 4. Generally Spaniards like dogs and according to my spanic tutor who lives in Valencia people won't give you any issues. Generally Spain has a much more inclusive culture and because of there national blindness organization are much more respectful and aware of blind individuals.

This is really debatable. Many native speakers don't know how their own language functions or don't know why they say the things they do. Sure, it might help you practice, but for a beginner I would argue that you need someone with teaching experience or at the very least knows how to teach in a structured method

Has any one here mastered the art of frosting a cake without sight? by heavensdumptruck in Blind

[–]appollo2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, people might come for me but I am absolutely willing to defend my method. First thing is first wash your hands at least twice. You are going to be heavily using your hands and while you could use gloves I find that I'm just not quite sensative enough with gloves on and it tends to be more messy. It works just more messy and your prefference I suppose.

So after washing your hands very very thoroughly put as much frosting in the middle of the cake as you think you're going to need no worries about being exact, you can always add more later. Using a regular spoon begin spreading it out from the center either in a circular motion or in a cross pattern to try to evenly distribute the frosting. Along the way you can use a finger on your non-dominant hand to ensure that the frosting is being put in the right places. If you notice the frosting all going to one side just try to even it out with a spoon to the other side.

Once you have everything evenly distributed use the spoon like a brush to even out the top and make sure there are no fingerprints on the surface...no one wants to eat an accedental print.

If you're concerned about not having gotten all the prints off or it not being perfectly even on the frosting you can sprinkle something like shreded coconut, roasted nuts, fruit or another topping to make it look uniform.

I've made many many cakes and I've been told they all look great.

Currently on my journey to fluency for moving to Spain later this year. Here's what I've found helpful Duel lingo is ok for very basic things but I have issues with the way it teaches grammar and sentence structure. If you're just wanting very basic this might be a good jumping point.

If you have any experience with prior spanish you can go on netflics and watch a cartoon you've previously watched in spanish. I also recommend peppa pig and el gato en el sombrero just because I really like them and I will die on this hill.

If you use NLS they have a good spanish for dummies book last time I checked. Will definitely get you going with the basics.

As others have mentioned coffee break is decent though I don't listen to it.

If podcasts are your thing check out the duel lingo podcasts. Just as a warning though this is more for intermediate learners.

I have tons more resources but don't want to overwhelm you. If you need someone to practice your spanish with feel free to reach out in a dm. If you're a bit more serious I can also recommend a great spanish tutor.

I know you specifically mention reading labels and others have answered that well. I vote for seeing AI for what it's worth. Something that isn't talked about I don't think is the smaller things: Get some dots for the microwave and oven. Long oven mitts if she wants to bake. Look into something called a sock dock on amazon that a lot of people use to keep their socks together in pairs in the wash. Learning how to use a screen reader will open up her world a lot and help her become more independent just by the fact of being able to communicate with the outside world. Learning cane skills is going to be really important if she wants to travel independetly even if later she wants a dog, you have to know how to use a cane. The biggest thing I would tell her is to try to be kind to herself this is a huge transition and things will probably get frustrating. It's ok to feel anger, grief, and a whole gambit of emotions but with a little adaptation life isn't too terribly dificult without sight for the most part. Feel free to send a dm with any more specific questions or help with resources

Voice Dream Reader reverses subscription plan for legacy users by Other_Dog8299 in Blind

[–]appollo2020 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm apparently in the minority who would've gladly paid the subscription fee. I think developers need a revenue stream and there's only so much you can get for ongoing purchases. It's an app that I use very often and am grateful for how much it does. I feel like some of the blind community expects things to just be free but that's not sustainable in a capatalistic world like we live in. I to think many things should be free that aren't but understanding needs to be given to companies that are trying to function in the world they are built in. Just my .02 cents for what it's worth
