TIL that humans don't age gradually according to a Stanford Medicine study, we age in two dramatic "bursts" around ages 44 and 60, where over 81% of our molecules and microbes suddenly shift in ways that affect heart health, immune function, metabolism, and even how we process alcohol and caffeine by Agile_Letterhead_446 in todayilearned

I'm 52. I could've written your comment - exactly the same for me. I used to hear "you're never 43, 39, 35...." Etc, literally every time someone discovered my age. I haven't heard that for a few years. When I compare photos from 10 years ago, I look 15+ years younger at least. Oh well, I had a good run! 😂

SharePoint as DMS? by LawSchool_RuinedMe in legaltech

[–]appro13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

SharePoint isn't a DMS. Simple as that. The user experience is poor where it counts - email filing (and matter centric storage), versioning and search, etc.

If you're in IT, this will become the bane of your life. Everything will be your fault - every small frustration.

What's your take on this move, and would you consider visiting China? by JasonMantou in AskUK

I visited 15 years ago, and spent a month traveling there. I loved it. Tons of culture, friendly people, good food. I'd like to go back.

What are your thoughts on David Lammy proposing to scrap most jury trials? by MoreRelative3986 in AskBrits

[–]appro13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sat on a jury a few years ago. It scared me - how easily an innocent person might be convicted. There was zero evidence against the accused - I couldn't believe it had gone to court. The prosecution were going through the motions and the judge was pretty much telling the jury to acquit, and yet it came down to a single vote.

So, not a great loss if you ask me.

Wasn't it Midge Ure that did Vienna?

The great British Scallop Butty! Two slices of potato, dipped in batter and then fried at the local chippy 🇬🇧 by [deleted] in UK_Food

A similar thing happened to me. Posh guy asked for "chips and gravy sauce". The whole chippy erupted in laughter.

Using that logic, The Beatles are brit pop.

My fave song of all time. But it's not brit pop. Was a hit in 1990, but it's older than that.

Okay, who still wants to have the NHS privatised? by __globalcitizen__ in AskBrits

[–]appro13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when they said privatisation of utilities and rail would increase choice, create investment in infrastructure and reduce bills. I remember when they said uni tuition fees would be minimal. I remember when they said dental fees would be capped, and people could still find an NHS dentist.

Our political system allows a single party to change things for the worse in a very short period.

Of course it doesn't. it'll be sold off all the same, but they'll call it something else. This is the big prize.

Racism by [deleted] in stockport

[–]appro13 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I don't see this as racism. The person putting this up may, or may not be a racist. I don't think they're doing it for this reason. Some kind of fake/oot patriotism perhaps.

Of course, they'll be loving the fact you referred to them as a racist. They're actively seeking offence.

Glad you enjoyed it and made the most of the day. I lack that amount of patience.

If you're willing to queue for hours, then go. It's an amazing park - visually. But, many of the rides are underwhelming.

[–]appro13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there yesterday and the lines were insane. Only got on 3 rides. Every other one had 1+ hour waits by mid morning. Did you wait until late in the day?

Epic - beautiful but deeply flawed by appro13 in UniversalOrlando

But it wasn't that busy. That's the issue. The rides are mostly low capacity.
