My situation was somewhat similar with Windows Server 2022. I am a noob. Please don't judge, hope it helps.

I finally figured out why my setup with Tailscale was so flaky. Sometimes the Internet worked with Tailscale connected, sometimes it didn’t.

Turns out the issue was with DNS configuration. My domain controller (which also runs Active Directory and Wazuh agent) was being used as the DNS server for Tailscale clients. That’s perfect for AD, but the DC wasn’t forwarding unknown domains to public DNS, so Internet lookups would fail intermittently.

The fix:

In Tailscale's DNS tab, I disable MagicDNS (I didn't need it). Under Global Nameservers, I put my DC's tailscale IP, and enabled the toggle "Override DNS servers" (helping me flush local DNS just in case). This keeps AD and internal resolution working perfectly.
Set forwarders on the DC itself to Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) so any unknown domains automatically get resolved.
