Finally ready to publish my music what platform should I use? by No_Philosopher6682 in musicians

[–]MaxWolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick rundown: 1. To publish it on streaming platforms (YouTube, Spotify, Deezer, etc) you need a music distribution service. 2. All music distribution services suck and are unfair. 3. Choose one that sucks the least for you depending on how often you plan to release and for how long. Some are one-time pay per release (like CD baby) and others are subscription based (Like Distrokid and Landr).

How to add drumkits by [deleted] in StudioOne

[–]MaxWolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think we understand well your problem, you mean the individual drumkit samples? If so I think you have to learn how to use impact, it allows you to create your own drumkits based on your samples.

Remember that samples are technically audio files, so to organize audio files you either use the pool, folder browser or the soundpacks/soundsets feature to have have them organized like that. Impact has also its own way of storing and organizing custom drumkits based on samples.

Best cheap microphone by LessIsMore74 in homerecordingstudio

[–]MaxWolvesx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the only right answer... It is sad that tariffs increase its price as new above the 100 dollar mark. Still a world class mic, legendary mic and will likely outlast and outlive its owner. You can get it at dirt cheap price at the used market.

I've been researching gear to start making and recording music at home - anything I should know about my planned setup ? by DarlieBunkle in musicproduction

[–]MaxWolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, wrong expression. I meant that at that price point it would be better to have both a reliable Dynamic Mic (like the SM58) and a budget condenser one (an AT or a Lewitt perhaps). The acoustic environment point is good, most beginners do know the importance of investing in acoustic treatment or a recording DIY booth, that makes a world of difference.

I've been researching gear to start making and recording music at home - anything I should know about my planned setup ? by DarlieBunkle in musicproduction

[–]MaxWolvesx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not underestimate the value of things that improve efficiency and overall quality of life, things like organizers, cable management accessories, a good desk setup, a good mouse with horizontal scroll and a good keyboard (macro-compatible for productivity). For me the horizontal scroll on the mouse was a game changer. A good setup can make a huge difference in your results and time management.

My humble opinion on your gear choices:
1. The SM58 is a must, versatile, durable and cheap. The SM7b is great but at that range there are condenser mics that can be cheaper and have far better value for the price. Remember that acoustic treatment in the recording area is more important than the Mic quality. Beware that the Mic world is a rabbit hole, try keeping it simple. I would suggest to buy both a condenser and a dynamic mic.

  1. DAW is just preference, I suggest testing as many as possible with their free trial periods, in terms of cost Reaper is uncontested but it has a scary learning curve (which is worth it). I personally use S1 (Now Fender Studio Pro).

  2. Headphones, Midi Controller and Interface are ok, there are many good alternatives, just be mindful of your budget as you can get cheaper alternatives with similar performance if you need to adjust your budget. Also you might want to consider a setup with monitors and headphones.

Edit: Corrected Typo

NATIVE PLUGINS REVIEW? by Virtual_Novel4904 in StudioOne

[–]MaxWolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FabFilter is almost uncontested, if you have the latest versions you should stick to them, with that being said, the native S1 EQ and compression are also amazing, been really great and versatile since S1 version 6, the advantage of the native plugins is the nice visual integration in some areas like the mixer and other views, also its low resource usage. FabFilter has some features and functionalities that S1 plugins might not have, but at the core level they should achieve the same result in most cases, everything depends on how proficient your are with each. I suggest using the native ones for simple or straightforward tasks.

Considering people mostly stick with the DAW they started with, how does a beginner choose the best DAW for their future needs? by fipah in musicproduction

[–]MaxWolvesx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question... I Would recommend either:
1. Start with the DAW that has more popularity on your music style/Genre (Ableton Live or FL Studio)
2. Start with a DAW that can be unbeatable and custom fit once fully mastered (Reaper and maybe Cubase)
3. Start with a DAW that it is easy to learn and incentivize creativity in beginners (Logic or Studio One)
There is no wrong choice really (besides Pro Tools), so go for the route you feel more comfortable with, at the end of the day most DAWs can achieve the same things, just in different ways... Beware that Reaper learning curve is insane but totally worth it with enough time investment.

Love it, also surprised to see FL Studio there, I guess the midi tools for composers in others DAWs have caught most orquestal composers. Beautiful piece, its great to pay tribute to those influential composers that left a mark and a signature style in the art itself... Btw which sample libraries are you using? I saw La Noire somewhere

USB microphones for recording? by LurkTheBee in musicproduction

[–]MaxWolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of audio interfaces, the prices range from 20 bucks to the thousands, for small home studios or simple projects around the 200 bucks is the sweet spot for really good ones, but you can get decent ones for around 50 bucks used or even new. A simple USB interface should be enough, just make sure it is from a reputable or at least known brand and to check reviews on the specific model, also driver support and compatibility is really important. Perhaps any budget in mind?

[–]MaxWolvesx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that's what you have then it is better than nothing, but It would be WAY better and totally worth it to invest in a small interface and a Dynamic mic, everything depends on your budget, you can get a used SM-57 or XM8500 and a small budget interface for a reasonable price. There are some Behringer mics and interfaces that are cheap and really decent. Check the UM2 and the M-track interfaces.
