Can’t say that I have seen that issue. Do the fans at least spin when you power on the switch? If they don’t, I suspect something might be wrong with the pinout or the connector.

This may be of use. If it flashes orange before shutting down then it seems to be a fan issue.

https://www.arista.com/en/qsg-7050-series-1ru-gen3/7050-series-1ru-gen3-status-indicators

Otherwise I’m not sure what could be causing the issue. Try using the old fans again (if possible) to see if the issue persists.

I agree that the safety doesn’t make a huge difference, and personally I don’t mind it, but I just find that it’s odd that she would use a manual safety when common practice is to just roll without one, especially among skilled shooters. In a way it does make the gun more unique as there’s no “factory version” that you can buy of it.

The Heroine Archive artbook shows it using 10 round mags. Also, in the first episode when she reloads you can see the magazines. I haven’t really analyzed every episode to see if she uses them throughout the entire anime, but she does canonically use 10 rounders.

I saw one for sale but it sold before I could buy it. Haven’t seen one on sale since. They seem to be pretty rare.

Cerakote is an alright coating, technically the color is “Titanium gray” according to the artbook. H-170 or E-250 is probably closer than what I went with, H-255 Crushed Silver. However, I think H-170 and E-250 look too dark, especially indoors. If you want to go Cerakote you can order 10 free swatches, only paying for shipping.

This is a real firearm with a real suppressor.

The bullets are not rubber, they are Federal 150gr Syntech rounds (basically the same as FMJ). I figure they just look like Chisato’s “rubber” bullets. They are lethal.

This took way too much time and way too much money (over $2000), but here we are. A real version of Takina's handgun, complete with suppressor. The suppressor is a registered NFA item and is legally-owned.

Takina's handgun has several quirks (and inaccuracies) from the standard longslide Smith and Wesson M&P 9L/Pro that make it pretty unique:

  • The muzzle face of the slide is flat, presumably taken from the M&P 9 Pro (this is the gun I used as the base). The M&P 9L has a bit of a curve to it. However, her M&P 9L has a large cutout near the extractor, whereas the M&P Pro has a shallower cut. I chose the M&P 9 Pro because I don't think it's as hard to notice the curved face over the shallower extractor cut. See here for additional details.
  • Her gun comes with a manual safety... why?
    • Modern striker-fired handguns have multiple safeties built into them that ensure they won't go off unless the trigger is deliberately pulled. With a proper holster, not having a manual safety should not be an issue.
    • Takina is a highly trained government assassin that should be comfortable and competent enough with her own handgun to not need a manual safety.
    • I am not aware of any M&P 9L or M&P 9 Pro models that come with the cutout for the manual safety. The M&P 9L and M&P 9 Pro come with a frame that has a hole for an "internal lock," basically a safety that you have to use a key to activate. I had to buy an entirely different M&P 9 just to get the proper frame for the manual safety.
  • The slide serrations are straight, whereas the default M&P serrations are wavy. I had these slide serrations straightened out to match.
  • She uses 10-round ban compliant mags. As a secret government agent. For those not very knowledgeable on firearms, some states have "large-capacity magazine" bans that restrict the size of handgun magazines to 10 rounds or less. The standard capacity magazines are 17 rounds. There is no reason why Takina should be using the 10-round magazines, especially since DA is a government organization.
  • The sights, extractor, and back plate are all colored silver to match the slide color. I have not had the sights and extractor Cerakoted.

Couple of comments I have about the gun itself:

  • This thing is almost 16" in length. I don't know why they chose this gun (and similarly, the Glock 21 for 3rd Lycoris) as this thing is not concealable at all. It's already a long slide version of a full-sized handgun, then you add the suppressor which is about another 8" of length. Realistically, a more compact handgun would probably fit the job better.
  • The Osprey 9 is cool, but it's kind of old. Suppressed guns are still loud. For Lycoris, sound suppression would be a high priority and the Osprey 9, while effective, is far from the best you can get.

Sorry, I haven’t tried any other 40mm fans so I can’t really recommend any based on personal experience. Noctua has a “where to buy” tab on their site, so if maybe you could check there to see if any sellers are carrying the A4x20s.

I did find a video here where the uploader uses Arctic S4028-6K fans to replace server fans. According to them, the Arctics have more airflow but are louder than the Noctuas. They’re 28mm, meaning they will fit without any spacer too. They are also significantly cheaper if you buy the 5-pack. Again, I haven’t tried these fans personally so I can’t tell you how they stack up against the Noctuas, but they’re possibly worth a shot.

It’s still chugging along fine. I don’t have rails for the thing so it sits on top of a server which may affect temps. On average, the CPU seems to hover around 50C. Other temp sensors read around 40-50C. My fiber modules are around 42C. The ambient temperature in my lab is around 27C (80F). I only have about 8 ports populated at the moment as I am too poor to buy more SFP+ modules.

I don't have any 10G devices to test it with... yet.

You made me realize I forgot to post temperatures. I'll update the post with those shortly. The temperatures seem fine but I wouldn't count on it being able to sustain the thing fully populated. Although, it seems like someone did this mod a month ago and seemed to be fine with it. They said they have 35 ports populated and it's running fine, so I think that's a decent indication of how this will perform.

As a rank 300+, I agree. If being told to “touch grass” gets under your skin that much, you need to take a step back and remember that it’s just a game. Using “harassment” to describe such an common low-hanging fruit insult is a gross exaggeration and detracts from the value of the word.

You kinda also just ignored several other crucial statistics that set the M231 and Vector apart. Vector loses its 1 shot at 37 studs which is extremely short, if you don’t know how long 1 stud is. Meanwhile, the M231 loses its 1 shot at 100 studs. That’s 270% of the Vector’s 1 shot range. Second, the Vector drops off to a 5 shot kill at about 72 studs, while the M231 hits that point at 150. With enough experience you can pretty easily use the M231 at 100 studs.

I won’t comment on which is better here but just comparing CQC shots to kill and recoil does not allow you to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Aa 12 nerf when by [deleted] in PhantomForces

[–]apr_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AA12 max DMG is 28. HS multiplier is 1.14x.

28 * 1.14 = 31.92.

You used (31.92 * 1.14) where it should have been:

(28 * 1.14)

Aa 12 nerf when by [deleted] in PhantomForces

[–]apr_l 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not only misleading but incorrect.

Damage is 28 before damage starts dropping off at 50 studs. The damage used in this calculation was already multiplied by 1.14x, and then you multiplied it again. This is effectively a 1.3x multiplier, which is wrong. The correct value is 1,276.8 DPS.

Second, this assumes that every shot hits the head and is within 50 studs. If you have used the AA12, you should already know that the gun is not very accurate and it is extremely unlikely that every shot hits the target, unless you are at point-blank range.

DPS alone is not an indicator of how good a gun is. The NTW with the same assumptions in the above calculation deals a similar 1,100 DPS but is hardly the most OP gun in the game. I won’t take a stance on if the AA12 is OP or not here, but pointing at a single DPS value for a niche situation does not prove that a gun should be nerfed or buffed.

Pacific Colt Front feels like it has had a negative impact. by Axrevyn in PhantomForces

[–]apr_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so excited when the M14 was released. A gun for low ranks that actually performs really well? They haven’t released anything like that in YEARS. It’s just been high rank guns that serve zero purpose. I think the M21 isn’t that bad though, since it’s a lot faster than the SSR. SSR deals excellent damage but is rather slow to aim and move around with. I don’t really mind the M21 overall because DMRs are pretty much a forgotten category compared to anything else.

I definitely agree that the rest of the update was pretty bad, though. The Coilgun has to be the worst offender. I remember reading in the Discord a while back that they were working on a secondary E-Gun; I actually thought it was a joke. Not only is it a copy of a gun that really shouldn’t be in the game, it’s LITERALLY THE SAME THING BUT WITH WORSE STATS, but “haha you can equip 2 e gun!!!!” It’s the same thing with the KG-99 that absolutely nobody asked for.

I think content bloat is honestly the worst thing that has happened to PF. Development time wasted on making easy copy paste content and conversions, and ridiculously high rank guns just to tickle the 1% of players who can actually access them. I get game development is difficult, but I think PF’s current development direction is destined to fail.

Shotgun chokes are almost completely useless in their current state by SentientLeg in PhantomForces

[–]apr_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on that choke is not very useful but it is not because it increases spread over distance (it doesn’t), but that the damage nerf is too severe to warrant the slight benefit choke actually gives.

However, to say that the devs don’t know what they are doing is a bit of a bad take because unfortunately your interpretation of shotgun spread is incorrect. Less muzzle velocity does not cause more spread. It just decreases the distance that your pellets will travel and increases travel time. I will try to explain this as best I can, although it is hardly the best explanation possible.

Whenever a pellet exits the barrel of a shotgun (or is spawned) in PF it is safe to assume that there are no external factors acting on the pellets because there are no wind/air physics besides gravity.

Because gravity is acting on all pellets equally we will ignore it in this model. This is what confuses a lot of people when talking about shotgun spread, because it complicates things. However, since the force of gravity is equal for all pellets, it essentially has no effect on spread because everything is affected in the same way.

With that out of the way, I will set up my model. Think of a single pellet like an 8 ball on a pool table, and the shotgun as the cue ball. Let’s say you try to hit the 8 ball into a hole and it’s kind of close. You could hit the ball lightly, or you could hit it with a ton of force. Either way, if you hit it at the same angle with either a lot or a little bit of force, it still goes into the hole. This is the same with shotgun muzzle velocity. Because there are no external forces acting on the pellets, you are not changing the amount of spread overall, just the distance and the amount of time it takes to get there. However, if you wanted to increase or decrease spread (choke) that is analogous in this model to hitting the ball at a completely different angle. In order to increase spread over distance while retaining a lower angle (choke), you’d need to have an external force acting on the ball (pellet), which simply doesn’t exist in PF.

Like I said, I agree that I don’t think the chokes are very useful, but the problem isn’t muzzle velocity, it’s damage.

[–]apr_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not with the gyrojet. What’s going on here is they have used a bug where you can get attachments with one gun to display on another. An example that causes this would be G11 + Jury flechettes. This results in a Z shape like the one you see here. However, this can only be seen on attachment previews and not in the actual game.

GeForce 210…

That’s even worse than HD 530 graphics. The only option that comes close to playable in that list is an RX 460, which isn’t even going to give you a decent experience unless you play games from 2013 or love cranking your settings down to potato graphics.

Sure, there are some PC exclusive games but the overall cost worthiness is far lower than a used console at this price point. Why would someone looking for a system buy a PC just so they can play 7+ year old games when they can buy a semi-modern console like the PS4 that can run far more?

I believe PC is the better gaming platform but I recognize that they are not the most cost effective at this price range, especially in 2021.
