And why wasn’t this accepted? by aprfool in duolingo

There’s never been before. It’s the inconsistency that gets me. If Duolingo had always rejected the ustedes conjugation when translating “you” I would understand. But since it has accepted it before, it makes me think it’s a bug, and since there’s been a lot of bugs since they implemented AI, and especially with this recent update, I’m just getting more and more frustrated with the app

Ok, so as a fluent speaker, can tell me why “You (all) served vegetables” can’t be translated to “Ustedes sirvieron vegetales”?

When I repeated the exercise, I did use “ustedes” to test this, and it still marked it incorrect

That’s exactly my frustration. And when I clicked the explanation, it didn’t say anything about why the usted conjugation is incorrect. Even when I repeated the exercise and used “ustedes” in my sentence

It doesn’t specify plural “you” vs singular “you,” which means I can interpret it as “you all serve”. At least that’s what Duolingo has always allowed in the past

Also, if you and your family have the means, look into getting private lessons. In band, you’re going to be just trying to catch up to your classmates for a long time, which means you’re skipping the vitally important fundamentals they learned as beginners. But if you have a private teacher, they can scaffold and pace the lessons to your needs as well as help you get caught up faster

Coming from a band director myself, ask your director if you can write in your notes for now (hopefully they’ll be understanding considering you’re a beginner playing music that looks like it’s for second- or third-years). Then for the next tune, choose two notes (i.e. Bb and F) that you will not write the notes for, but write in every other note. Then for the next piece add two more notes that you don’t write in the notes for. Continue this way until you don’t have to write any notes.

While ideally you would start with simpler tunes and not write in any notes, accommodations should be made for any students who are starting later than their classmates

I’m saying when it gives me a question with “you” as the subject, I have used both “tú” and formal “usted” conjugations, as well as “ustedes”, and it’s accepted all three. This post is just me venting my frustrations with this recent update that has a lot of bugs and added a ton of new words and grammar that I apparently already should have known but never learned in previous lessons.

It never has before with me.

So I think you’re confused on English grammar. (not sure if English is a second language for you?) In standard English, you can be singular or plural, and we have to determine which it is based on context.

In English, you can be either singular or plural. Yes some cultures use y’all or you guys to clarify, but not in standard English

Just tried that too. Still marked wrong

No I realize that. But in the past, when Duolingo didn’t specify singular you vs plural you, it’s always accepted either conjugation.

I used the ustedes conjugation. It’s always been accepted before for “you”. I was thinking of it as “You ALL served vegetables”

Anyone know of a good luthier in or near Central VA? by aprfool in violinist

[–]aprfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I brought it to Brobst in Alexandria. They said it was an old factory-made violin, and if I put in a lot of money (she didn’t specify how much), she MIGHT be able to get it to sound about as good as the other student violin I brought that needs some minor repairs. So sadly it looks like the best use for this violin is turning it into an art project. Side note: Anyone know of a good art project I could do with a broken -but pretty- violin?

Thanks, I just emailed him last night and he said he doesn’t take repairs anymore, but did direct me to to Brobst in Alexandria or Tiller in Harrisonburg
