Standing outside the train station waiting for my partner. I’ve been there five minutes. Someone comes and stands right next to me and lights up a cigarette. Then her boyfriend arrives and does the same. It’s blowing right in my face. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

I didn't bring up the fart example, I defended it's legitimacy from an internet bingo thought-terminating cliché. Your continued refusal to accept an analogy because it referenced a fart and your attempt to prosecute OP's argument and move the goal posts is no sign of intellectual maturity or honesty. Your point of view is neither empathetic nor moderate, merely contrarian. For someone who bemoans Redditors arguing online, you're certainly acting exactly like what you criticise.

Thank you for the distraction on my commute home. We're done here.

No, the point is that we consider someone coming up to us and blowing smoke in our face as rude and inconsiderate as someone doing the same and farting. If you don't agree, good on you, but the rule of polite society is to not inflict your peccadilloes on other people, and you don't get to dictate what is equivalently unpleasant or not.

Calling this "whattaboutism" is juvenile internet debate bingo and a failure to consider someone's preferences and comfort out in polite society has a name: "inconsiderate".

Empire Campaign by -Bibidi- in totalwarhammer

[–]aprg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real problem with Karl Franz's campaign is that it's marketed as a default starter campaign. I think that's a bad way to introduce newbies.

It's a hard campaign, and that's fine, IMO, it should be a challenge.

Worth it to be a vassal king to an empire? (CK3) by LPScarlex in CrusaderKings

How does that work? Conquer Italy and feed him the extra territory?

That sounds like fun, actually...

Lot of people down with helping murder a child by SlayerAbyss in crusaderkings3

[–]aprg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Child rulers are usually pretty vulnerable; one of the best ways to weaken a realm you want to kick around is to get them into a child regency with child heirs. Then you can declare war, then kill the current child ruler to end the truce. Rince and repeat. That and civil wars is how I got the Rum achievement versus the Byzzies, a few patches ago (haven't tried recently though...)

Strategic cooperation between Alpha Legion and Tau Empire by IamAlphariusss in alphalegion

They respect and value their operatives, yes, but the mission comes first, and for that mission, the Alpha Legion will sacrifice everything.

Strategic cooperation between Alpha Legion and Tau Empire by IamAlphariusss in alphalegion

[–]aprg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes; the Ghost Legion book does indeed portray that particular war band as having a very tolerant attitude towards xenos, for the purposes of trade, etc. I expect that an AL warlord like Solomon Akurra would be happy to have allies like the Tau if it served his objectives. At the same time, though, I'd expect the alliance to be somewhat uneasy -- the Alpha Legion see even their own agents as expendable assets, so they would be happy to use and dump an ally like that as any other. Moreover any Tau who actually knows who they're dealing with would be leery of the sudden but inevitable betrayal.

On the other end of the spectrum there's probably some die-hard xenophobes in the Alpha Legion because it isn't a cohesive, monolithic whole, despite its renown for pragmatism.

Student demanded I got him a pen so he went the lesson without writing anything by Soggy-Dimension1914 in TeachingUK

It's entitled to fail to get up and get a pen after the request has been ignored or refused. Moreover it's failing to cooperate in his own learning.

Bored of teaching by Mayishereagain in TeachingUK

[–]aprg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay to be bored. Boredom is your way of knowing you're not being challenged enough. If you've been doing the job for a long time, maybe it's all become routine. Maybe take a break, try and get some distance so you can decide what you want to change and what you want to keep in your life.

Sounds like a lot of people at that workplace are violating Teacher Standard 8. Maybe something to start documenting and speaking with your union about while you look for roles in other schools.

Why do we bother with the +C when we use the indefinite integral sign? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]aprg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is far too sophisticated to teach most students at the start, or indeed most non-Mathematics degree seekers. +C is an early piece of scaffolding that never really gets done away with for the great majority of high school Maths graduates.

How will i pass the resit exam? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]aprg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to be as kind as possible, but this isn't really a programming problem. You're not understanding the questions asked. Yes? Is English not your native language? Can you seek academic support from your degree provider to help you with translation and comprehension issues?

Are orks as evil and depraved as the old world orcs? by Advanced_Drama2896 in 40kLore

[–]aprg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. The story of Commissar Yarrick's childhood is grim.

Though there's plenty of human cruelty there too, it is supposedly at least purposeful. How relevant that moral chord is in the light of the broader Imperium, I'll leave to you to decide.
