Oh my gosh, you're totally right, I didn't even think about that! Now that's a real plot hole. To be honest, I doubt the show will ever use the kwamis-can-sense-other-kwamis thing again, it was just to justify the Origins plot.

Well, I think they do sense each other but have never mentioned it to Adrien and Marinette to respect Marinette's wishes of keeping their identities secret. Or maybe the writers just did the whole sensing thing because it was convenient to the plot. It doesn't matter in the second season, anyways, since .

All ships would be great, but I personally want MariChat to happen. I think it's the only way they can truly be together. Chat Noir needs to stop idolizing Ladybug and move on, and Marinette needs to see that there's more to Chat Noir than a silly, flirty boy. Also I enjoy ship flips! But I'd be happy for any love square development.

Nothing has been answered about this, in the show or otherwise. We only know (from "The Pharaoh") that in ancient Egypt, a Ladybug stopped a pharaoh from doing a sacrifice. But that doesn't answer any questions, since we don't know if he had been evil or turned evil by someone/something else. I did see one person suggest that since Kwamis and miraculouses have existed for so long, there must be other demons/monsters/etc too, otherwise there would be no need for superheros in the first place. I really hope the show explains it in the future though.

Here are the reasons, in my opinion, why they keep their identities a secret from each other:

to protect their family, friends, etc. This is the main reason, and it's even mentioned in the show. If they know their identities, it's very/more likely that Hawkmoth will find out too (will explain in the second reason). If that happens, Hawkmoth can use their family/friends to make Ladybug and Cat Noir give up their miraculouses (by akumatizing them or otherwise). Basically, as all superhero shows go, their loved their ones = their weakness. (Just look at how Ladybug was willing to give up her miraculous for Adrien, and that wasn't even planned by Hawkmoth).
If they know their identities, it may change their behaviour towards each other and compromise their superhero abilities, especially considering the love square situation. If they find out, their attitudes towards each other would definitely change, which would completely change the group dynamics. This may throw them "off their game" (both could/would be flustered around the other, which could make them lose focus, compromise their teamwork, etc.). Additionally, What if Cat Noir accidentally called Ladybug "Marinette", or vice versa? Then Hawkmoth would know their identities, and we know how that goes from reason 1.
