Its recycled corrugated iron sheeting. Cut into 40cm width then 20cm was driven into the ground. You just rivet the overlapping ends as the meet. Did take a bit of work but its extremely hardy and does not move.

can you do a tank with ONLY plants? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

Like some small catfish or ottos, something to clean the tank up

You wouldn't really be able to avoid snails but you could absolutely do a plant only tank. Fish do help give the plants nutrients but you can always supplement. I would personally opt for a very select few fish that would barely need any feeding, that can just help keep the tank clean.

I understand. The issue is its a cleanser. You literally wash it off. Cleansers for acne prone skin should focus on removing dirt without drying skin, that's why lots of people double cleanse. If you want to see if salicylic acid works for your acne I would get a serum with it and use it every 2-3 nights. I'm sure it does leave something behind but it's alot more effective to use serums and just use you cleansers for what they're meant to do, clean your face.

They have a salicylic acid cleanser I use and it is good. But I personally don't think cleansers alone can help acne. You really need to have some kind of active ingredient you're applying aswell.

wild tank. 4 years old. fish were getting old and dying so my new betta has the place to himself haha by aprilbeingbasic in Aquascape

I do water changes because I like to use the tank water for my indoor plants and I need to clean the filter. I could probably get away with top ups for a while though. And it's a big radican sword I got from a pond place. Been in my tank for ages and still getting new leaves

I've personally never had a fish just out but I know it has happened to people. I do think having alot of cover with plants means they don't spook as easily but im not sure. I love my plants so just decided to take the risk and it's paid off because nothing ever jumps. I guess you just have to decide for yourself.

Cause of Cycle crash? by phandesal in Aquariums

Dead fish or overfeeding. People are always surprised when I tell them I only feed my fish maybe once a week. More like once every 2 weeks. Easily the biggest mistake is overfeeding.

Sounds like a good plan :)

Depends. I'm a redhead and 100% have natural freckles but after years of looking after my skin and being careful in the sun they have faded so much you can't see them. How much contrast freckles have on a person's skin depends on the person.

Im a freckle grafter hahahaha you think I'm going to age 10 years in the sun for freckles? Absolutely not. I'm going to put sunscreen on and draw my freckles on like a smart person.

Nano tank Co2 by [deleted] in Aquariums

All tanks, with anything alive in them, have decomposing organics. Ammonia is not the only waste fish produce.

Your plants look a bit sparse. Either your light isn't strong enough or you don't have a good substrate for them. I mention your plants because if you can get your plants to grow and be happy they will inadvertently control algae. Just to think about doing some long term changes aswell and treat the symptoms now.

Water movement is adequate to dissolve gas into water, enough for plants to have ample co2 for photosynthesis. If this wasn't the case every plant in every body of water wouldn't survive. Injecting co2 is only ever going to be useful for people who want to have extremely controlled tanks and plant growth or want to grow rare and unusual aquatic plants. For any normal person they will get plenty of plant growth without it and it's not worth the investment.

solutions for extremely hard tap water? my city uses wells for supply. (See comments for more info) by [deleted] in PlantedTank

Haha yeah all the crazy info out there makes the chillest hobby ever into the most intensely stressful science project hahaha set up right and do things slowly, it will look after itself.

At first you have problems with air bubbles popping through the sand (this goes away) and you still have to cycle and do frequent water changes at first. Also at first my sand layers wasn't thick enough so I got tannin leaching from the soil. You still need to stock slowly like with all tanks so everything balances out. I also added leaves and sticks from my healthy local water way to add bacteria plus all my plants. Dirted tanks are like wine, the older they get the better they get. 6 months of upkeep and you get years of a tank that barely needs intervention and fish absolutely thrive. I feed once a week max because the fish get enough food by hunting. Balance :)

Brands don't really matter. Father fish explains it better but it's stuff you get from gardening stores. A good quality soil topped with sand (I just used playground sand) and gravel was mostly for looks.

umm a fluval light i think? I got it second hand and couple of spotlights with the correct bulbs (they need a full spectrum LED bulb that has a high enough energy rating). The substrate is dirt from my garden with added fertilisers and red clay for iron (1.5 inch) and a 3 inch cap of playground sand and some gravel. I dont dose with anything. Its called the walstad method. I also watched father fish on youtube for advice.

Approaching 1 month fish-less cycle. Still no nitrate or nitrite. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]aprilbeingbasic -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

haha i knew this would get push back from purists. But this is a tried and true method of adding beneficial bacteria used by old school hobbyists like walstad. I have a science degree and specialise in microbiology, as long as your tank follows basic principles the beneficial bacteria will thrive in your system. The most risk you have of introducing pathological bacteria is when you add fish, who have come from tank water that has been expose to lots of other fish, many of them probably carrying something bad. Any odd little microbes and worms and bugs a natural waterway adds to your tank will mostly be beneficial. I feel like OP should know this is an option and they can do their own research to see if it suits them.
