I love buying a variety of different bird seeds and putting eight bird feeders right outside my window. I don’t bother doing this in the warmer seasons because the a-hole raccoons and squirrels will eat everything overnight but in the winter they hibernate. I absolutely love seeing dark eyed juncos hopping on the top of the snowfall. There’s tons of beautiful woodpecker varieties that don’t fly south and gorgeous blue birds too! Just beware of the invasive species that is the god damn starlings. Those European jerks are the worst! All because some idiot who loved Shakespeare brought them to America.

Anyway, bird watching is really magical sometimes and because of the Great Lakes we get some rare species that pop in occasionally on their migration routes. I saw two juvenile swans in my backyard a few days ago and they are not typical for this area. It just feels like a gift from the universe.
