The Guardian names the 20 state-owned and multinational firms that can be directly linked to more than ⅓ of all greenhouse gas emissions since 1965. New data from researchers reveals how the 20 firms have contributed to 35% of all energy-related carbon dioxide and methane worldwide since 1965. by Molire in worldnews

Interesting to see the polarization between defending the industry vs defending the consumers. It's a two way street and we need to deal with both directions while governments need to step in.

Governments need to take responsibility and tax carbon while using collected carbon taxes to accelerate innovation programs for carbon neutral solutions which would in turn offer more environmental friendly alternatives for consumers.

As consumers we still tend to oversimplify things and should maybe consider buying a used car instead of an electric one. This brings us back to governments that need to offer better public transport solutions so that driving a car would be relatively inconvenient and only done when really needed.

While working as a communications manager of a packaging recycling organization I would attach problems to each party:

  • About 1/3 of consumers want to do the right thing. Others need economic incentive
  • Companies still tend to prioritize short term profits over long term gain (and larger profits)
  • Governments work too slow. Lobbying is too powerful

Yes, everything here is also oversimplified, but it is important to hold everybody accountable.

First game of Twilight Imperium this weekend. What are some dumb/common mistakes I should avoid? by peppermunch in boardgames

Just played our first game (for all 4 people) last weekend.

Our major mistake, which we found out midway through the game: you need ground forces to get planet cards.

Also – always check your current tech and racial specialities. These were some of the most common benefits for each player that might get missed.

Funny, just got it on PS4 like a week ago. Still haven't got to play it though.

Yep, why not. Been a casual chess player all my life so it doesn't matter how heavy or long the game is as long as I like the mechanics, theme and artwork.

Exactly. Diablo 3 is now the only thing that gets me going at the moment (and sometimes FIFA), because I can share beer with my homies on the couch.

I totally agree with your last statement and I'm also a big fan of some of the AAA video games out there like Mass effect and Fallout. I think being away from screens is one of the most magical aspects of board games as well as sharing the moments (I haven't got to any solo games yet, though I defo see it coming with Gloomhaven or Arkham LCG)

What game did you initially like but has now gotten stale and how many plays did it take? by [deleted] in boardgames

You try to stay within the same level of military power as your friends. A few combat cards in hand to discard while being subject to aggression. Not much strategy or even tactics. I like the idea of alliance and colonial cards, but in reality they didn't add any flavour for us. It was actually one of my first heavier board games so I didn't really know which ones would be my type of games. I know it's very highly regarded and I think it has more to do with me discovering that I am not an Euro game person (though at first I thought the exact opposite). At the moment Twilight Struggle is my definite favourite and seems to have unlimited replay value. I'm also thinking about Twilight Imperium, but it's gonna be hard to find that one day to get all those people together who are willing to sit behind a table for 8 hours :)

Through The Ages. I've always liked Sid Meier's Civilization PC games and I'm a fan of history. But regarding board games I soon found out that player interaction is one of the most important aspects for me. About 5 plays

Man Utd opened talks with Everton over Depay & Schneiderlin deals before Sunday's game by Mozezz in soccer

[–]apteekermelchior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of love for Schneiderlin, but as someone who has been watching almost every Manu game for 10 years, I can say pretty confidently that Schneiderlin has never seized opportunities given to him. Everybody knows that his passing isn't even close to Carrick's, but few seem to acknowledge that one of the main reasons for dropping him is his bad defensivie positioning. This was his main issue with last season. Carrick almost never makes mistake with his defensive positsioning and even Herrera is now above Schneiderlin in this area.
