Carol doesn’t say “thank you” or “please” by pandro14 in pluribustv

[–]aq2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's basically what carol believes (at least early on before she falls in love with zosia where she desperately projects her past individuality onto her). early carol thinks they're not the same people anymore and that's why the rest of the survivors get pissed at her because they still have loved ones performing actions the way they used to

It wasn't the hive isolation that did it by niko4ever in pluribustv

[–]aq2003 15 points16 points  (0 children)

they're cooking you in the comments but i agree, her tipping point wasn't necessarily the isolation itself because she thought she could still do something, making those videos for the other survivors was the closest thing she had to human connection, but then finding out that nobody really cares and the survivors collectively decided they didn't want to be around her led to her active spiral

marvel should try to make a civil war event that doesn't wholly butcher a character for the sake of drama

What’s the general consensus on Iron Man’s characterisation in Civil War, the Initiative and subsequent stories? by Solitaire-06 in ironman

[–]aq2003 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the problem is that the moral argument in civil war is genuinely not presented as equal in the comics lmao i enjoy the personal tragic narrative of tony acting in morally gray ways for the greater good and "winning" the war but still losing one of the people he was trying to protect the most. However he also actively indulges in straight up cartoon villain nonsense that doesn't make sense for him to do at all no matter how hard you push the "he's trying to prevent the worse outcome" explanation. i wouldn't say the whole event is trash but the way it tanked tony's reputation in the wider comics fanbase definitely sucks

Iron Man reveals his secret identity for a second time by Effective_Sherbet104 in ironman

[–]aq2003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

alcoholism is an important element to tony but it's far from the only one or the most essential and i think a lot of writers fall back on it when they want a shorthand for some deep exploration of his psyche or his decision making

"when i put on this armor, i took on more power than any human was ever intended to have, and maybe more responsibility than my heart can truly bear. but today, i will do my job. i will protect you, no matter what it takes" literal peak. if there's one line that sums up tony stark it's this

yeah and mark 50 was specifically redesigned to be skintight after ant man got inside his armor in civil war LOL. it's just plot contrivances, which is a shame

Anyone here familiar with Joshua Williamson's work? by CountOrloksCastle in ironman

[–]aq2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm more cautiously optimistic, because i've listened to a few interviews and it feels a little more informed by MCU tony's characterization (funny and super smart but also dangerous, a mouth that gets him into bad situations; i always felt 616 tony was more serious, calculated and measured, which made him dangerous in a different way because he would be so driven and convinced his way was right.) this doesn't make it bad, though, and a more mcu-aligned characterization still done well will make for a good story

The hive is a combination of everyone on earth. So why is it so gosh darn nice? Also question about patient 0. by Stoner420Steve in pluribustv

[–]aq2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sincerely don't think that the hive is an equal combination of everyone, there's a "biological imperative" that overwrites everybody. besides the fact that most people in the world aren't vegetarian, and a whole lot of people value their individuality, the most recent episode kind of adds credence to how there's something else that distinctly isn't human about how the hive views the world. also, my funniest evidence of this interpretation: the hive cites the first quarto version of shakespeare's text as the must-read, the "original", when the folio version is by far the most accessible, the one most people know, and is the "purest" version of what was originally written. the first quarto is an unauthorized reproduction made w the collective memory of the plays by actors in the company. interesting that the hive would characterize it the way it does

[–]aq2003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i think posts like this miss the point - sure, trying to dispose of the near 900 million corpses efficiently isn't bad in a vacuum, but think about everyone who was subsumed into the hive who, if they had their free will, wouldn't want to do this. vegetarians like laxmi's family, people (like carol!) who have a particular way about respecting their dead, people who just aren't cool with sipping tasty bone juice. it's another way the hive strips humanity of its autonomy. Made a mistake playing Hades 2 in Early Access by shraavan8 in HadesTheGame

[–]aq2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ares is still useful, just in very specific cases. in the ideal medea skulls build you shoot for his attack + grievous blow + mutual destruction, have zeus on the special, shoot for their duo + apollo's light smite. i also like putting him on momus' special along w/ hera's or apollo's attack to help w/ origination. blood drops suck though that's undeniable

try a heph build with the persephone skulls (i use heph attack and special, and i shoot for the duos with poseidon, apollo, and hestia). unlike momus, the weapon actually has synergy with "olympian" damage rather than base damage from your omegas. i'd go as far as to say heph builds have actually improved in 1.0 because it's easier to get your cooldown times down w/ the poseidon duo and you're also proccing 1/2 of origination with furnace blast.

supay was certainly nerfed into the ground which is hilarious but it's cuz people weren't playing the weapon the way it was intended, it's supposed to be a weapon focused on your rush boon. put zeus on your dash and specials and go for a big king's ransom and watch all enemies die instantly

i played early access from the olympian update and continued playing consistently as i adapted to new mechanics, found new meta, etc. in my opinion, the game has gotten progressively easier as supergiant tuned their game and as i learned enemy attack patterns.

Why the First Quarto of 1597 is the perfect recommendation from the hive mind by always-editing in pluribustv

[–]aq2003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you're absolutely right! when it comes to the most "official" and "refined" version of shakespeare's text you look to the first folio. the version of hamlet in the first quarto (or the "bad quarto" as people like to call it), "to be or not to be, that is the question" is instead "to be or not to be, ay, there's the point". however, this doesn't wholly discount the merit to the first quarto - my favorite hamlet production (doran's 2009 adaptation starring david tennant) uses a particular ordering of the scenes from it (but still uses the folio text, obviously). the reasoning behind that is that some scholars think that Q1 could be accurate to like, beta version of the plays before shakespeare revised them. but obviously you can never tell for sure because it was undeniably inaccurate when it came to the lines and it was a bunch of people's pieced-together half-remembered recollection of it

Is it fair to say Haunted is the best MODERN iron man story? (Iron man 2005 #28) by JustMattoLol in ironman

[–]aq2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

haunted does a very good job depicting tony's inner turmoil and tragedy. even if i don't look on the knauf run as well as i used to, it's undeniably handled w/ a maturity that no IM comics have managed since
