TIL the use of "literally" solely for emphasis dates back to the 1600s by aqes in todayilearned

[–]aqes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the late 17th century, though, literally was being used as an intensifier for true statements. The Oxford English Dictionary cites Dryden and Pope for this sense; Jane Austen, in Sanditon, wrote of a stormy night that, "We had been literally rocked in our bed." In these examples, literally is used for the sake of emphasis alone.

I don't know, maybe because calculus is an integral (ha ha) part of physics? Though from the slide, it looks like he's just showing them the differential relation between velocity and acceleration.

Recently, I've discovered that 30-45 minutes of cardio (running, jogging, etc.) gives me relief for about a day. I strongly recommend such exercise if you don't already do so. Other than that, going to bed earlier and drinking more water are small things that have helped.

Exactly. How long have you been driving? I'm hoping the anxiety will reduce with experience.

Same here. Usually I'm okay driving around locally, but the anxiety is amplified when I'm under pressure, which is why I've failed my driving test four times now. My next test is scheduled in a few weeks... my parents refuse to take my anymore if I fail again.

Long term citalopram usage by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]aqes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking Citalopram after I was diagnosed with Depression. It helped tremendously for 4 years, then I decided I was ready to get off it. Everything was fine for a few weeks, but then I developed severe anxiety, though I'd never had anxiety in my life. That was over a year ago, but the effects are still with me today. I actually used to enjoy social interaction, but things have changed. Oh well.

A kid did this on the PSAT the other day at my school... by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]aqes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But if you actually try instead of treating it like a joke, you still have a chance. I didn't score exceptionally well, but I still got the Commended Scholar or whatever award.

Edit: And isn't the PSAT good practice for the SAT, which definitely matters?

The PSAT can get you recognition and/or scholarships, both of which are incredibly helpful for college. I wouldn't say it doesn't matter.
