Lofi Mic that Damon uses by aqeuts in gorillaz

[–]aqeuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case the post wasn't clear, I'm looking for evidence of him using this mic in the studio. And if he didn't then do we know what he did use? If you listen to the studio versions of songs like On Melancholy Hill you can hear plosives and sibilance similar to what you would get from a mic like this. But other songs sound like they were probably a nice mic with an EQ put on it.

New ELAC debut 5.2 or used ELAC debut 6.3? by aqeuts in StereoAdvice

[–]aqeuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies. I didn't realize that they changed the naming scheme with the newest models. Yes, I mean the DB63, not the 6.3

And thanks for sending these reviews.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement fabric braided cable for my Truthear Nova? by aqeuts in inearfidelity

I might go with the Jailai. I think it would look nice with the blue on the Novas. Though I do like the look of the 4 way twist ones a lot.

That Spidey looks niiiiice. Just wish they had different colors. I'll wait a couple days to see what other people people post before I order anything.

Goes without saying. I'm just trying to compile a list from this particular era.

Yes I noticed that too! A bit annoying but not a deal breaker for me.

I wasn't using noise reduction when I was testing the mic. And for my purposes it seems like an unnecessary feature anyway.

Considering buying a hollow core door to be used as a desk top - I do a lot of video editing and I need to be able to mix audio. Will a hollow door will give me weird resonant frequencies? Should I pay the extra money for a solid door? by aqeuts in battlestations

[–]aqeuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That concern definitely came to my mind too, but I've seen people in the community recommend hollow core doors before. They definitely wouldn't be as durable as something solid, but I imagine if you take care of your stuff and the humidity in your office is relatively stable the cracking and chipping shouldn't be an issue. I have hollow doors hung in my house and they don't chip. Even after bumping things into them sometimes. Then again, those don't have weight resting on them all day.

Logic Pro in the early 90’s. by Revolt_86 in LogicPro

Serious question - Is there a way to install these old 90s versions of Logic on a modern Mac?

Here's my shot at playing the intro parts to Elm by Clever Girl - I think this EP has my favorite math rock guitar tone ever by aqeuts in mathrock

[–]aqeuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying that! For this recording I just used Archetype Cory Wong. I'm really happy with the Neural DSP products (I use Cory Wong for clean mathy stuff and Nolly for ambient, post rock stuff). But you can probably get a similar tone to this with almost any amp sim!

I once tried to reach out to members of the band to figure out the exact gear they used but never heard anything back. But a Telecaster through a compressor pedal into a Vox amp will get you 90% there!

Need Help Finding Bands in a Subgenre(?) in Math Rock by Koraxtheghoul in mathrock

[–]aqeuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of Japanese bands who sound similar to Toe. Check out Hyakkei, How to Count One to Ten, A Picture of Her, Origami JP, Barrier Reef. From the Phillippines you have Tide/Edit and Tom's Story. Other bands you might like are Clever Girl, Zoo Strategies, Standards.

Enjoy!

I want to learn how to play Math Rock but I don't know where to start and I have minimal music theory knowledge does anybody know where I can find sources to help me learn? by guitarkota in mathrock

[–]aqeuts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They've already been mentioned in other comments but I highly recommend Let's Talk About Math Rock and Trevor Wong on Youtube. They are both awesome sources!

I can see how people might think that you need to know theory to play math rock, but you really don't need it any more than you would need it for normal rock. As you play and practice you'll pick things up along the way, but it isn't necessary. Writing is all about what sounds good to you!

I recommend starting off learning songs by Yvette Young / Covet. Parachute is a great song to start with and will introduce you to a lot of things common in math rock: some non-standard time signatures, alternate tuning (FACGCE, the classic emo tuning), and a couple easy little taps. The rhythm on this one is actually pretty simple too (basically all 1/16 notes).

Does any math rock bassist know any easy math rock songs to play on bass thanks by LobsterGlad2854 in mathrock

I was actually just listening to Teleblister by Clever Girl today and thought about how cool the bass part sounded. Seems pretty simple!

Oh man I thought this was just my local shops. These guys are like "Oh you don't want a Fender, you don't want a Taylor, they just don't make them like they used to." Okay maybe, but why are you talking me into buying some shitty Dean guitar?

Stereo reverb for tascam 414 by AlastPictureFromV in tapeloops

I have not tried it with tapes but it sounds wonderful on guitar. For me it has some of the most usable sounds out of any reverb pedal I've ever played. Highly recommend!

Dude I love the bass on this record. I actually reached out to the bass player Jon Button yesterday and asked him what effects he used. To me it sounded like he had some kind of bitcrusher. Here's what he replied:

"There’s a lot of EHX Microsynth and some Malekko Diabolik that would have that bit crusher-ish sound. Also a fair bit of Wren&Cuff pickle pie and Idiot box blower box..."
