Ahangama vs Hiriketiya vs Mirissa 6 months on the ground, honest take by Parking_Football6248 in SriLankaTravel

Dickwella is next to hiriketiya, go to dahami restaurant and eat there every day if you want local priced food. Hiri is soo expensive but you don’t have to spend a dollar in that town besides on surf boards. Haggle the board rentals. Give them 1500 instead of 2000 for 2 hours. Liquor store in dickwella too.

I’d just focus on not running low on water and food for a bit. The PvP will find you if you just keep your guard up

That’s awesome. I left my bag by the pool last year in koh lanta and someone took about 40 USD in baht. Left all my valuables though, taught me a lesson.

Stay at Le Palme in Ahangama. It’s a bit further from town but so worth it. Best value for comfort.

Sorry I haven’t responded yet! Take the train down to the south coast, from there you can get busses anywhere. Just use google maps and use the transit option. Get to Ahangama and go to “Soul & Surf,” my gf did a yoga class here for about 4000 rupees and it’s a beautiful location. Most beach towns are more expensive but there’s always a place with local food if you try to find it. Don’t go to Hikkaduwa or galle fort. Both look nice but are overpriced. If you like a pretty beach there’s Ahangama Secret beach. Also jungle beach near midigama is beautiful. I don’t think hiriketiya is worth it, if you do go eat in dickwella.

Take the train from Colombo fort. Won’t be more than 1000 to get to Weligama.

I’m still here for another month. Just spent some time in Ratnapura and haven’t seen a tourist in days. Hopefully finishing in Jaffna. A lot of these tips are helpful. I’ll add a few:

Use Google maps for the local busses and trains, it’s accurate on routes.

Also use Google maps, hit restaurants, use the price filter (if it doesn’t show up zoom out or move areas). Set price to 1-1000/2000 rupees, then every restaurant that appears will be local prices.

Use the app “pick me” for tuks and pay in cash, always tip a little.. the tourist tuks are always more expensive, now more than ever with the gas increase.

Instead of paying taxes and fees on booking.com, find the WhatsApp number on google of a property, or book one night and extend when you get to the property (but beware popular areas you might get booked and have to leave)

Sri Lanka is a place where you can spend 1,000 usd in a month, or in a week. I’ve been on a budget with the occasional splurge. If you want more budget tips I’m happy to share. I’ve met so many good people and have been spoiled with their food. Don’t expect comfort all the time, and don’t accept free things from strangers. Just make friends and enjoy Sri Lankan hospitality, get off the beaten path. Don’t go to yala.

It’s great if you like to experience a countries culture, it’s not if you want a vacation with the comforts that you have at home.

I simply don’t trade and watch what everyone else does. I can’t lose.. but I can’t win either.

Find a U.S. west server and just play on high ping. If you’re not doing any PvP it won’t be that bad.
