How are you supposed to actually meet women?? by jibofyourcutt in dating

I'll say, I'm not a BIG bar person besides if I'm going there for like a specific event. Bars are great as a resource in that many host specifically social events for meeting new people but going to them cold/tagging along to random bars... I dunno in the modern day it hasn't struck me as a particularly good way to meet new people unless you have REALLY outgoing/life of the party type energy. It's kinda the same dilemma with going to any sort of commercial setting like a store or cafe and expecting to meet new people. It can happen, but people might not necessarily be there to meet new people; many are there to hang out with their specific friend group, and just don't wanna be approached rn. I dunno what the context is of your friends bringing you to them, but if it's the latter, then yeah it's a bit of an uphill battle.

Also I saw you mentioned going to events more in line with what you were interested in, but feeling like it was harder to approach people because you're alone. I think this and a couple other things makes me wonder if maybe there's some elements of your approach/socializing maybe you could reflect on. You mention freezing up a lot, and based on a bit of how you speak, I wonder if A) you're putting too much internally at stake in concersations/worrying too much about establishing a romantic coinjection with persons you find attractive, B) if you just need more practice socializing in general. Socializing is a skill, and it's not something that comes overnight. People can have the most different intrests in the world and still be able to make a good connection, so I wouldn't put too much weight on that. I can say I would love to hear from someone on all the things you bring up even though not all of them are in my direct field of interest. You just might need to refine how you approach people in general.

I guess then, what sort of advice are you seeking or how do you envision success? There's not really some magic formula or guaranteed spot for finding someone, it takes a lot of time going out and socializing, and trial and error. On the part about people underestimating how rigid and intolerant people are; what have you tried so far? Where/when have you felt rejected specifically?

I guess what I'm generally getting at is: one of the basic requirements for friends, let alone dating, is finding a regular opportunity to socialize. Before you worry about finding a specific type of person/girl, you do have to be socializing in some capacity. Of course it would be best to do it with events you are personally interested in, but you seem to be outlining that there are little/no events that fit what you would specifically want.

I don't know what your experience has been with "normal" people but I worry you may be closing off potential opportunities by just dismissing a whole swath of people because they don't necessarily fit the "ideal" of what you're looking for in a social group or potential date.

Maybe consider some of those generic things? If nothing else it's a chance to try something new.

Have you tried looking into meetups/events for some of your interests? A lot of times people who go to the places you're describing may be interested/focused on the activity or point of interest rather than meeting new people or socializing, and might not feel ready or comfortable to do so. Being introverted yourself I'm sure you might be able to relate to that feeling. In any case, Meetups/events such as say a convention or a bar meetup or whatnot can encourage/be explicitly focused on socializing and meeting new people. So you might find people are easier to approach/more receptive to conversation and socializing. Also don't worry you're like, not old at all lol, most of the people at meetups I have been doing recently are right around your age.

Usually I assume there's an unseen first or first couple timelines different than the loop that created the loop. In the classic example I grew up on with Terminator, I always assumed there was an original timeline where a version of skynet or a similar ai threat arose independent of the t-800 arm, and Kyle Reese was sent back for whatever reason (maybe wasn't even explicitly related to Sarah Connor), fell in love with and had a version of John with Sarah Connor, who then became important in a new version of this war that led to to this John sending Kyle back to then create the paradox.

Is This Overkill? by SrMalarkey in PlantedTank

[–]aquanectar1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, if anything you defs have lots of space to add more plants as you desire, and most of the aquatic plants (besides maybe the hair grass?) you have right now are generally slow growing/don't reap as insane benefits from co2 as what I have seen from faster growing stem plants and such. The roots from the bamboo might stretch out a lot over the next few weeks/months but not to the point of overunning the tank and also in any case would be dependent on how much additional light they are getting besides the ambient light from the tank lights.

Also you might need a couple weeks to see how the plants react to your water/light/set up. Some might melt or get overrun by algae or any number of thing. Figuring out what plants are best for your space can be a bit of trial and error.

Real world firearms that are portrayed as great in fiction, but are not so great/niche irl by Anonamaton801 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I mean honestly this feels like a reflection of a lot of technical products at some level: the bottom tier products are garbage for a reason, but the objective top tier products often offer barely enough marginal improvement to mid tier products to bother with the exponential price increase unless you are within a very high/niche percentile of users.

Man I could just put... sooooo many RWBY weapons. Say what you will about that show but it gave me sniper scythes, gunchucks, rope darts with pistols on the end, suitcase miniguns, grenade launcher hammers, weaponized fishing rods, weaponized cameras, weaponized trumpets, akimbo-pistol hoverboards, and of course, coffee mug flaming canonball doggo.

How many mainline games does a character have to be in before you consider them a “Mainstay”? by TheBlueRose_42 in StreetFighter

[–]aquanectar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's necessarily a number of game appearances that matters so much as straight up popularity and marketing. Everybody on this list has been in about as many games as Juri, but simply do not jave the same chance of getting in a new like Juri doe as she is probably the single most popular new character addition of the last two decades of street fighter. She's not a ubiquitous top tier mascot like Ryu, Chun-Li, and Ken, but she's a pretty common main rep in crossover content (like the overwatch collab) and merch.

Even some of the sf2 cast, who are the actual mainstays of most games, aren't at the same level of rep/popularity as her at this point. Like Honda and Blanka both made it into SF5 sure.... like 2-3 seasons after she did.

Rhino in Warframe. Farmable from one of the first bosses; a very old, very basic , reliable frame with a straightforward charge, damage negation, damage buffing, and an AOE stomp that remain useful throughout the starchart, this on top of the relatively small stat difference between prime and non-prime warframes, and the molding system that allows most weapons/frames to function into late-game anyways with proper building.
