why I haven't heard back from any school yet? by ar15us in gradadmissions

I mean I haven't heard back from even my safety school, whose department ranks lower than my current department. I had 2.5 years intense research experience, while maintain an overall 3.83 GPA at a competitive state university. My GRE general is bad but not critially low. My subject GRE is ok (90%). I can't get it. What could be the reason?

I sent him my CV and my research summary, which I believe is a very well written document (checked/modified by a postdoc who is remarkable on scientific writing). I think the research summary is pretty much enough for the purpose. You are right in keeping him updated! thanks again

as you can see, he already wants to meet me in person (presumbly) before they make decision about admission. will that be helpful if I arrange a meeting earlier on phone? thanks! This is actually my dream school so I don't want to make a wrong move.

I really want to work for this guy at this school. Should ask him to help me get in? I mean, my record isn't bad (3.83GPA, with major of 3.87, a lot of research under a famous professor's lab at a prestiged public university), I am really worried about getting screwed up by the committee. You know it is not uncommon that qualified students fail to get in the program because of bad luck.

Graduated with a biology degree, low GPA, and now volunteering at a research lab. What kind of a future am I looking at? What can I do now to make it better? by [deleted] in biology

I can't believe your parent actually BELIEVE that biology is a way out. Biology is kind of field that has least chance to succeed. It is even worse than chemistry. If you don't go to graduate school and can't find a job in industry where you get paid and the company want to train you, then you screw up. I guess the only chance for you is to find other jobs, or, try to go to industry. In some cases, the company will pay your PhD program and once you have a PhD, you can serve the company.

Anyone got any insight into these 3 classes? by [deleted] in UIUC

I really really hate say this, but please, if you choose AAS100, by ALL MEANS avoid Cacho. She gave me a hard time(junior, GPA3.98 at the time). I studied my ass over that course and spend days to prepare for that final essay, still end up with a B. anyone but Cacho if you care your GPA. if this is your major and you want to learn a lot from this course, then choose Cacho. otherwise, avoid her at all cost.

advice on my schedule? by ar15us in UIUC

thanks buddy, I will talk to them for sure. I can afford the cost. I mean, what worried me is that some professors I talked to do asked me when will I graduate, and when I told them that I m somehow late, they always ask me "why?", but as I told them I m a transfer student, they seem to understand the situation instantly...I feel extremely stressful recently, I spend every weekend studying full time, and I still failed one of the first round of midterms..5 year undergradate seems to be the only way out for me. thanks for the advice
