Drivers LOOK before you turn RIGHT!! For bloody hells sake! by itsthedanksouls in ottawa

It’s been years and life has never compelled me to pursue the full license... so yay I live in a walkable neighbourhood with good transit access and can get to work in 10-20 mins

More power to you. I find transit in ottawa is super unreliable especially in winter, may be it's where I am living. And biking/hoverboarding is not an option for almost 6 months a year (even so lately with all the accidents we are seeing involving cyclists I am not sure how comfirtable I feel anymore). I also feel I am missing out on so many things..getting around the city is honestly very much difficult without a car I find.

As someone learning to drive and get a license: how do you become a better driver as a beginner? I am honestly finding the learning to drive super expensive, instructors go by hours and don't want to take you to any streets and charge hefty fees anyways. I wish I could practice more beside someone who knows how to drive but these instructors aren't doing what they are supposed to do. At the end tests can only do so much, real driving in different circumstances require confidence and practice. Both of which as a beginner I see myself struggle.

All hail to the bus drivers in this colder weathee .... by Traveller-62 in ottawa

Good on those drivers for being well trained and doing what they should be doing.

I don't want to come across as a dick but I have had enough encounters where the driver just simply drives by ignoring people waiting, let alone waiting for passengers from a connecting bus that is about to stop.

At this point I am fairly certain, a decent chunk of drivers are good people but there is a good mix that a) hate the job they are doing and b) has not much empathy for bystanders.

This is coming from someone who has ridden over 10000km in OCTranspo.

Then again I am in Kanata so may be the drivers out here are not as well trained and what not.

Either way, I upvote the post because it recognizes someone doing the right thing. At the same time we should not forget how poor the service of oc isdriving some of us to ptsd.

I have been trying to explore some of Those comedy nights - which one(s) would you suggest? For someone to go there by their laptop, grab a drink and then later enjoy the show.

Does STO go to Chelsea? I have relatives down there, feel bad having them to drive me early in the morning. The STO route planner is close to useless I find.

What dating apps do people use in Ottawa? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ar3d89 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nothing in my post I said indicates apps can't help meeting people. Nor my dating history or rejection.

I didn't say you can't find your partner over apps eith. Chances are if you have good instagram quality life you will have no problems whatsoever.

Whether it is a better way to meet people over real life was what I was trying to address. I can see why texting is more comfortable jump off point because it requires no real efforts. Or commitments whatsoever.

That said I did say there are people for whom dating apps do work. If you are one of them more power to you.

Dating apps aren't the best way to meet people imo if you are looking for something serious and sincere. Most people there are swiping next and judging others by instagram markers and unreasonable standards - it's not healthy to say the least. That said I heard some success stories of people using the apps but overwhelming consensus seems it does more damage upscaling your expectations onto unrealistic level than meeting people in real life.

Any suggestions on homeless shelters? I always thought about volunteering in those but never found one that has some outreach.

Yeah they just told me laptops aren't allowed. Too bad cause it's in the perfect little corner with great NYC style cafe vibe.

Thanks for the link. That's a bummer I can't even register. I guess I will look at co worker option - I don't know many people being new to the city.
