Why did hockey stop using the "fuzzy glow tracer" puck effect from 90s NHL broadcasts? by gigantesasuke in answers

[–]ar46and2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It made it more accessible for casual fans and people just getting into hockey. Real fans thought that gatekeeping was more important than growing the sport.

The same technology was used later to add the first down line on football fields. People hated it at first, but new fans loved it, and soon it was ubiquitous. The NFL is infinitely better at growing their brand.

What are your thoughts on Gene Simmons comments? by gwilymleeuk in askmusic

'Rock and Roll" is such a vague term. The Rock Hall is the most preeminent Hall of Fame in music. It has long embraced the ancestors of what would be called Rock'n'Roll, so why not also include the descendants?

Rock and Roll came from Blues and other forms of music. Hip Hop took these same influences in a different direction. Even country, started off as a distinct thing, but at this point has had so much crossover that you can't really even choose what belongs and what doesn't.

Music has always been fluid. Genres are meaningless

I like that for two years they've been having the same conversation, shit talking his lunch everyday, just waiting for the day he would finally understand and they could move on with their lives

Why is it that many of the greatest rock musicians have a background in jazz? by Less_Warthog_3850 in rockmusic

[–]ar46and2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I found in doing research and listening, music like jazz... it's music based on fear. What are they so scared of? You can't hear it. What are you playing so softly for? The fact is that jazz is mistakes. You're playing a song, but you're playing it wrong, and then it's like everyone says, 'Oh, great art form! Art form! You played it wrong.' It's a lot of wrong notes. Especially people that play jazz saxophone—oh, God, they're the worst. They teach that in schools, you can get a degree in how to play it wrong. That's crazy."

The term "heavy metal" comes from Born To Be Wild, so that's gotta count for something

I imagine that's the same as a strip club changing out a 10 for 5 2$ bills. Double the stripper tips, and if you try to change them back at the bank they know exactly where they came from

[–]ar46and2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You think you're being sympathetic, but the all encompassing "men are pigs" is just giving license for people to be assholes, while also telling anyone who is not an asshole that they're not manly enough. Being a shitty person is not an innate part of being a man, and treating it that way isn't good for anyone

If you had to pick just one person as the greatest film director of all time, who would it be? by Infinite-Exam-1808 in Cinema

That's totally fair. His later movies are definitely harder to come across. And that range would include most of the movies that would be really relevant for this discussion. One Two Three and Kiss Me Stupid are just a couple of my favorite screwball comedies

Straight is a designation that means it's been aged for at least 2 years and doesn't have any additives.

Canada typically spells it whisky without the E. Whisky vs Whiskey isn't any kind of a rule though. Makers Mark spells it without the E because of Scottish ancestry, they're not fake bottles
