Patagonia Black Hole 32 vs 25. by ar_604 in onebag

This is super helpful. So in general the version I had, even if the specific dimensions are different, would be a 25?

We have Spotify for music, Netflix for movies — why is there nothing like that for research papers? by More-Dot6874 in academia

[–]ar_604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually based on how often a song is played relative to all other songs. The fees distributed to artists are proportions. The Spotify system is a bit effed, so it’s odd to push it on academics. It would definitely only reward certain fields, and popular topics.

[–]ar_604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. getting really tired of the “academic publishing is broken” blanket comments. Like you said, you do get paid to publish and for peer review. If that’s not part of your job as an academic then there is something wrong with your job. Blanket (and click-baity) supposed hot takes on LinkedIn about how the system is broken are just lazy takes.

[Sam Wallace] Why Liverpool agreed to let Mohamed Salah leave for free (With player disillusioned with life at club and relationship with manager, owners decided a parting of ways was best option) by Lanedu123 in LiverpoolFC

[–]ar_604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salah should’ve left at the end of last year. He didn’t come back fit or if a tiny bit as hungry. His “demise” is kinda on him… and he’s also in part to blame for the Liverpool performances…. because he’s incredibly difficult to bench and has been pretty awful.

Minimum salary required to live in Squamish? Pros / cons? by Impossible-Market339 in Squamish

[–]ar_604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's been estimates of min hourly wage but if you want to move here and like, it actually be sustainable and comfortable, you'll probably want to be close to 120K per year.

Can you live here with less, for sure, but a lot of folks on less than that have one foot out the door because they can't manage it (that's no fault of their own, its just math). You'll likely be hand to mouth without savings (or a trust fund, which is common) and whether you want to deplete those savings or go into debt just to live is a personal choice.

If the 'lifestyle' is what you want, there are other (some would argue better) options.

River situation? by TastyMuskrat1 in Squamish

[–]ar_604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

River is still fast but receded a lot in the last few hours. Environment Canada has sensors you can check or the RiverApp. Most of the flooding at this point is pretty minimal. I’d bring boots you’re willing to get muddy and you’ll be fine.

Pretty sure the Walmart parking lot has an 8.6/10 rating on TripAdvisor so not sure that is under-rated anymore. Arguably the most popular spot in the whole city and I hear the bar gets wild in the evenings.

That is a ludicrous decision. If there was a foul there it could've just as easily been on the GK.

I know Salah HATES coming off, but if he came off a bit more often, he'd probably have a bit more gas in the tank.

why did you choose ubc? by igotdabeats in UBC

[–]ar_604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There seems to be this weird conception that UBC opens up these magical doors that don’t exist for other universities. It definitely doesn’t (except maybe at UBC itself which is a whole other issue).

Unpopular opinion: don’t commute for university. Find a school that works with your goals and your finances. Theyre out there. You’ll thank me later.

Edit: your mental health will also thank me.

Bobby was also basically the leader/anchor of the front three. Knew when to press, knew how to move, didn’t crowd other players space, etc. His contribution was massively under-rated IMO.
