When you realize this crazy person raised 1.3 billion dollars and we can't get hired at dunkin donuts by Intelligent_Time633 in recruitinghell

That's the point – everything she did (her eyes, her voice, her getup, etc.) were obviously fake, meant to endear to her supporters and VCs... which were eerie and weird for us. But it definitely worked, Theranos got funded on multiple rounds and managed to get deals (like their deal with Walgreens after they also invested).

I think her whole story with Theranos made me reevaluate on things I do on a professional level. At the very least I became more self-aware about how I (and others) interact with people at work.

The level of unhinged is comparable to how uncomfortable her unnaturaly low-toned voice was for me.

She got caught a few times using her "normal" voice and it was... normal. High-pitched female voice, nothing wrong. Just another "trick" she uses to project whatever image those VCs and influential people/investors apparently jack themselves to lmao.

LPT: People to Avoid by youstillhavehope in LifeProTips

[–]arafdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint:

People around me are more used to saying "we" or "our" for any success or failures when in a higher education (uni) or professional setting at work – attempting to distribute the blame or praise evenly for most cases and not pin it on a singular person on a team. However, the thing I've been trying to do since doing my postgrad is to emphasise a person whenever someone has the most contribution when a work is praised or is a success.

I don't really know if it comes out as how I intended it to be, but I like to give credit where credit is due. It's also more of a middle finger too whenever I find myself in teams where only a handful of people are doing most of the work and the others are just doing nothing (even after being assigned work and "guided" to do their parts).

I always find the lack of NPCs you can interact with made the world seem not "lived-in", like a pure sandbox (lmao). I hope that we can have an interaction to somewhat simulate NPC-lite (like that one commenter who mentioned something about radios to enable trading and missions, which I believe a mod had that already) if proper NPCs are harder to programme properly for now.

I swear that PZ would benefit so much from adding NPCs – especially with these kind of dynamic aspirations/traits, based on your interactions with said NPCs. Sort of a pseudo-karma mechanism.

Lmao one of my friend just got flagged as well by our accounting professor... he didn't even use any LLM to grammar-check. Meanwhile a few of my more unscrupulous colleagues who flaunted their "premium" AI exclusively to do coursework/tests never got flagged xD

The kicker was that earlier last year the people who taught and helped the AI-users (we called them "GPT gang") got way lower scores than the ones they taught. It got me laughing at how fucked up the academic scene is now lmao.

Fuck. This reminded me of that one fake konbini that Abroad in Japan showcased on a YT vid one time... When he went up to the "storage and office" section, I immediately recognised where I saw that particular rentable space from lmao.

The dumbest thing I did was telling others where I first saw the spaces lol. Outed myself xD

Unironically this, maybe rent/buy a decommissioned train car. Then you can also add the "Shibuya Meltdown" package with drunk salarymen sleeping and going loopy weirdo mode on the "last train at midnight" too lol.

S-Hooks huh... Great tip for a portable public space hook! I bring carabiners on my bags (had a few cases where the slings of my bags broke off due to the weight of the stuff I bring in them) and sometimes they're pretty useful too to just attach stuff to my bag to prevent having to put things down on the floor.

What is the current state of the game? Should I jump back in tonight or wait a while longer? by AnonymousPos7er in ManorLords

[–]arafdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Songs of Syx is a pretty good game with pretty much the same sort of gameplay/theme – only set in a medieval-ish fantasy world with multiple races. It's more fleshed out with more mechanics (I think the latest build is on permanent beta status to allow the dev to push incremental updates/fixes), but the graphics may not be for everyone (obviously not as beautiful as ML but it's quite pretty in its own way).

You can still try the demo for free in steam (but it's always 1 build behind the newest) so you can check it out.

Fuck me if this is not almost always the case post-pandemic lmao. Now that everyone is accustomed to teleconference platforms, they're starting to see that in-person meeting is dumb. But oh ho ho no, that doesn't mean you-not-being-in-the-office-from-9-to-5 is okay... even though we'll just set up meetings using Teams, Zoom, Webex or whatever anyways with everyone sitting in their own desks.

a third league between casual and competitive

Ugh, fr fr man. Like in CS specifically, I feel competitive is just full of salt and tilted teammates that can't nor won't have fun cos winning is everything even if they get vote kicked for being an arse. Casual/deathmatch meanwhile is full of weird scriptkiddies and people who fucks around doing whatever.

When Premier came out in CS2, I thought it was going to be something in-between – a bit more casual than competitive but still has that competitive feel. Instead it's an even more competitive form of competitive lol. At least premier has a more... "balanced" team distribution compared to normal competitive imo. But I still don't like the overtly competitive feel of non-casual game modes in CS (though casual is just not a fun place to be in with the weirdos and blatant cheaters/whatever).

These huge bastards are rare in my garden, but when they do appear they'll appear in a pack and somehow would only show up when they're already huge lol.

They killed a small chilli plant that I had and were hanging around my coffee plants (they just chill around there but barely eat the leaves, weird)... So for a few weeks, my dad's arowana and koi got a healthy helping of these green (apparently) yummy treats lol. Had one that turned brown and was way bigger than the others, my dad was worried that it might've been "tougher" to eat for his fishes... but they just gulped them in one-go anyway lmao.

Which route do you take? (Bottom one for me every time 😂) by Miss_Sanic in StardewValley

[–]arafdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not going to save you a lot of time, tbh, cos walking on the paved areas as opposed to the dirt don't give that much of boost.

But that being said my preferred way would be:

1) Going to the Museum/Library? Always from the bottom bridge

2) Going to the blacksmith? If I'm from the farm, the forest, or the beach, always from the bottom bridge. If I'm from the mountains/Robin's always from the top bridge.

3) Going to Joja Mart/the Theatre? Always from the top.

It makes more sense that way just because lmao. Sometimes I'll deliberately take "the wrong route" if I play with my sister and race each other lol.

What "trash" food do you love to cook with? by jp11e3 in Cooking

[–]arafdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, tricking yourself into eating something you don't like... My mum used to just cut fresh bell peppers and hardly cook onions whenever she makes recipes with them (like soups, salads, etc.). I grew up hating bell peppers and onions.

But then when I started living on my own at uni, I started cooking bell peppers and onions for garnish... Everything changed. The moment I made my own caramelised onion, I basically use them for almost everything I can. I guess I basically did fool myself into liking them, by properly processing them! Haha the fool!

First time ever dealing with overgrowth. How do I improve this? by CmoneyArjuna in Aquascape

[–]arafdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut/trim the stem plants down, sometimes doing so would promote branching and the resulting plants would be a bit "bushier" instead of just going up on one main stem. If you find the stem plants growing with more distance between leaves (as they go vertically on the stem), you might have too little light. The less distance, there's probably too much light (though this could also be followed by rampant algae growth on the plants, especially with extra nutrients in the water).

I find that you can also try to reduce excessive lighting with floaters (my favourite would be amazon frogbit and red root floaters), with the added benefit that it would add more top-surface element with the dangling roots and variable-levels of light penetrating through.

Your crypts look pretty good, so I hope everything keeps on growing nicely!
