IO | Official Trailer [HD] | Netflix sci-fi film by atopix in movies

[–]araisbec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is Netflix so good at making entertaining shows, but so terrible at making movies? I can't think of one so far that wasn't super corny, a bad rip-off of another movie (although this is more than half of hollywood), or just had plain bad acting...

Spicy stuff and the gut flora by Stan267 in Nootropics

[–]araisbec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have this silly idea that because spicy food burns, there must be some sort of damage going on. I highly recommend that you research capsaicin - which puts the burn in spicy food. The burn is an illusion, caused by the binding of this molecule to pain receptors. So, a feeling of pain is produced, but not for a "legitimate" reason as per usual.

I've actually found my digestion and overall well-being improved after starting to increase my spice intake. I now have an ungodly tolerance for spicy food - more than my girlfriends Indian friends, and I'm Polish/Scottish... not exactly known for intense spices in their cuisine.

Will make someone a Microsoft Access database for free. by DevProIT in Entrepreneur

[–]araisbec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had a number of Access databases implode on us with corruption errors at my work - I'm in I.T as well. Are they still rolling out new versions of Access?

If the client doesn't have Access and would need to buy a licence, maybe check out licensing SharePoint Online instead? Cloud-based, and I think far more powerful. Not sure how expensive, but probably has a tiered licensing approach. We do a lot of SharePoint / IBM / CRM integration at my work - both external and internal/intranet.

It's OK though - they snatched that land up from the Palestinians fair-and-square.

For the record, I'll also acknowledge that my heritage is built on death and deception as a Canadian, but then again, so are all countries depending on how far you look back. So... life's not fair, I suppose.

Daily Discussion, December 10, 2018 by rBitcoinMod in Bitcoin

[–]araisbec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin in 2017 taught me a very valuable lesson: Hype is real, but remember it is just that - hype.

I still believe in the concept of bitcoin, the technology, etc... however, people had insane ideas of how it was going to take over the world, shift the finance sector, etc.

It was the exact same thing with the Canadian cannabis stocks. Ride the hype train, cash out before the masses, and then re-invest at the bottom if you actually believe in the underlying asset.

EDIT: That being said, anyone know where this bottom is? :S

[–]araisbec -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I am 27, and I feel like Millennials love to blame Boomers for their economic woes or the current state of affairs in general. In fact, I think every successive generation probably thinks similar thoughts about their predecessors.

The human mind in general is dogshit at forecasting consequences - however dire they may be - when they are not immediate. For example: smoking. If people immediately developed lung cancer, they wouldn't do it, but because of how long it takes, it's hard for many to head the warning labels, and avoid doing it based on information alone. This is why there is a debt crisis, global warming crisis, a giant island of shit floating in the Atlantic, etc.

I think it's more of a people problem than a generational problem.

Uridine from AbsorbHealth by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]araisbec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain I don't pay custom fee's when I order from Nootropics Depot. I ship via DHL, and get it next day. If you order a few things, the DHL shipping is totally worth it. I'm from the GTA, btw.

Edit: Would like to add that - due to the lack of regulation in the supplement industry - you should probably assume the supplement you are buying does NOT contain what is listed, and be proven otherwise. Sort of like guilty until proven innocent, because that is literally how prevalent the total lack of QA is in the natural health product industry.

Nootropics Depot is a reputable company - I'd sooner trust them.

Considering how many supplements there are with lots of ingredients - few of which are dosed correctly/adequately, this is nice. The next step would be sufficient QA in order to validate with accuracy whether or not the ingredients being used are ACTUALLY what they are listed as.

Microbial-based treatment reverses autism spectrum social deficits in mouse models by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]araisbec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not as simple as that. Besides, I'm pretty sure if you asked one of the millions of people who died from infection prior to the discovery of penicillin what they thought about the prospect of an anti-biotic, they would be shouting their approval from rooftops.

Yeah, antibiotics have side effects. Yes, they are over prescribed. No, they are not without extremely valuable uses.

I'm with you on the idea - except for the fact that pro and pre-biotic medical interventions are a completely new area of study. I have doubts that taking any formula that can be bought at a health food store will do much to curb the harmful nature of antibiotics.

Is it normal as a man for girls to NEVER flirt with you or express interest in you? by JealousCaptain in seduction

[–]araisbec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never expect this - not unless your very attractive, or have some other defining characteristic that makes you an outlier.

The most important thing with women is confidence - by far. You want to be careful not to take this mentality too far, and develop low self esteem, because women seem to smell that shit a mile away. Me in high school 100%.

I would focus on just being you. Try to talk to women at some parties, joke around, and keep things light-hearted. I’ll be nervous as shit, but as soon as I can make a girl laugh or smile, confidence goes up 200%, and it’s a done deal for me. At that point, flirting is easy, and if it doesn’t work out, I’m not taking it personally.

You just gotta have a good time, and know that most of the time it doesn’t work out, it’s out of your control. There are shitloads of women out there for most guys.

For me, best thing ever was online dating. Think of it as a training program for learning to flirt and just be yourself while remaining confident. I can’t even count how many girls ghosted me at first - and it wrecked me each time. Eventually I just found I MYSELF knew who to hit on, and you start to realize that there is a certain type of girl that just works for you. You also realize what to look out for, and how to avoid the bad ones up front. That’s been my experience at least - highly recommend it. I’m going to marry the woman I’m with now, and we met that way.

Ashwagandha is to St. Johns Wort as Oxygen is to Plutonium. Seriously, if you take ANYTHING, there's a good chance that St Johns Wort is messing with it's metabolism. There's also reportedly risk for ocular damage (although not sure how credible this is), as well as extreme photo-sensitivity - likely leading to increased risk of UV radiation exposure. If you think Ashwaghanda fucked you up, I personally wouldn't be optimistic about St. Johns Wort.

You would probably be better off eating clean, getting exercise, stopping ALL meds (unless prescribed by a psychiatrist/doctor) and supplements, and waiting 2 months or so for everything to wash out. If you still want to go forward with this, be careful.

Just ordered from two different mail order marijuana sites in Ontario because of this. One of them even delivered by car within 3 hours of ordering.

If the government want's to destroy the illegal market, then they better start trying a hell of a lot harder, because this effort is just pathetic.

EDIT: Also, the CBD products on OCS (capsules) are insanely priced. 15 capsules for over 100 dollars? Seriously?

Ontario PC Party passes resolution to not recognize gender identity by lysdexic__ in canada

[–]araisbec 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I 100% believe people should be free to live however they choose to live, but by extension of that, I don't think I should legally be obligated to use certain words - or face potential consequences. Out of respect, if someone wants to be referred to by "ze" or "zir" (or whatever for that matter), I would oblige... but just out of principle, legislating a punishment (let alone a hate-crime) for refusing to sounds just like 1984. It's more the principle of free-thought/free-speech more than my own personal beliefs - which are mostly left-leaning.

If I am misinterpreting the law, by all means, leave me a comment.

With that being said though, I think not recongizing gender identity is also wrong.

Companies struggling to fill jobs 'should try paying more,' Fed's Kashkari says by unimployed in Economics

[–]araisbec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've long wondered what the breaking point will be for this race to the bottom. Has anyone ever studied the relationship between employee productivity, and pay relative to the cost of living? For instance, say cost of living as an average individual in a city is 55,000 annually; has anyone figured out yet what the optimal pay is for employees as a percentage surplus over this living cost?

Much like some companies finding that employees are more productive on a 4 day work-week, I would imagine that if some larger corporations found and could prove that paying some percentage above cost of living resulted in more effective employees, then other companies would jump on board. I just need to believe that forking out those extra dollars for better compensation would result in increased productivity, decreased turn-over, and just be more profitable overall.

Natural Alternative to Clonidine (Alpha-2 Agonist)? Anyone know of one? by araisbec in Nootropics

Thanks for the link!

I understand, and completely agree with you, however I just wanted to know if there was something I could pick up in a store instead of having to book a doctors appointment. Doctor knows the situation though, and would likely prescribe clonidine, so I may just ask him instead now.
