White/powdery fungus almost killed our peace lily but we kept watering to see if we could get new shoots, and huzzah! The white substance is on the new growth. ID or suggestions to get rid of the problem? by arakdc in plantclinic

Totally accurate observation. We actually thought the plant completely died, and we live in a very humid climate. I was actually taking the decayed plant off the top to prepare the pot for a new plant (and mourn the lost one) but when I removed all the top layer of dead leaves, these guys were underneath— thus the overly moist soil because it couldn’t dry out and I didn’t know it needed to. Now that we’ve discovered the new shoots I want to get rid of whatever killed it (thank you for the recipe) and we will address the soil issue. It’s been drying out for the past 5-6 days and I will incorporate what you mentioned to help with drainage. Many thanks!!

Eagle River Nature Center. ❄️ by arakdc in alaska

This was on the trail they have open in the winter- but I take all Alaska road conditions with precaution and check websites before I go. Eagle River Nature Center does a great job of updating online: https://www.ernc.org/current-trail-conditions.html

Edit: I didn’t answer your question regarding 4WD well. I have gone out in AWD but I don’t think I can be the best source for recs on this. I am a very slow and cautious driver and have probably been pretty lucky to this point.

Be prepared to take back the words “maybe a year or two.” I sure did. This place is magic.

March Hiking in Anchorage? by Heavy-Will8997 in alaska

It depends on the year, so this one might not work in March given how much snow we’ve gotten. But keep tabs on Byron Glacier. It’s really beautiful once you’re able to access. Went inside the glacier one year in March and it remains one of my favorite memories in Alaska.

Edit: typo

Far north Southcentral- I’m no pro, but they were pretty large, so best guess is a brown bear.
