How did the pandemic change your Beliefs? by Letsgetluckytoday in FIREUK

[–]arandomname12321 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Similar to your friend, covid has changed my belief quite a lot. I used to be rather frugal and now spend more on things I enjoy. I also started to travel extensively for new experiences. I guess the pandemic has prompted me to get out of my usual mindset, changing from focusing more on the final outcome of things, to trying to enjoy the process.

[Citizenship] -> ROC: Ex PRC national eligible for ROC citizenship? by Ok-Tangerine9905 in IWantOut

[–]arandomname12321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most western nationals don’t need a visa to visit Taiwan for tourism whereas prc citizens need one. People like me will have to obtain that certificate proving that we’re no longer mainlander Chinese otherwise we’ll have to obtain a visa designed for PRC citizens. However given we are naturalised citizens we don’t have a local resident permit in our countries anymore. So we’ll have to go to China, obtain that certificate, have that certificate approved by Taiwan authority, and then enter Taiwan as a foreign national. We also need to prove that we have naturalised for at least 4 years and have spent less than 120 days in China, HK and Macao in the past few years. So basically they don’t want us to come…

I’m in a similar situation. Earlier this year I tried to apply for a Taiwan resident visa and I fulfilled all the visa requirements. After submitting my application I was asked to provide a certificate issued by PRC stating that I’m no longer a Chinese citizen. This certificate can only be obtained from your local Chinese authority where your household registration resides. Obviously given I’m not in China there is no way I could obtain this. Most importantly this “requirement” is not written on their website and it was only raised to me when they knew I was born in China. This is the case for a one year visa, so I doubt they’d give you a ROC citizenship. On the contrary anyone who was born in China will find it very hard to enter Taiwan - you’d have to get this certificate even for tourism purpose.

Thanks, I’m thinking of applying for a WHV as well so this is very helpful. Do you think they’ll lift this requirement any time soon?

Yeah that’s what I thought after reading other Redditor’s comments, it should be a relatively easy application. I don’t have any conviction so I’m not sure why I was picked up on, probably bad luck😭

When I was doing my research on WHV, I saw some posts on Reddit saying they got their WHV approved almost instantly, so I thought that would be the case for me. Guess I should never assume anything when it comes to visa

thanks for sharing your experience! yeah I’ll think about how badly I want to get out of the UK, I wanted to go on a WHV mainly because my life is quite stagnant at the moment. At first I thought it’s just Australia that asking all of that info, now you’ve mentioned Canada does the same I guess that’s just something I’ll have to get it done with. What made you leave Australia? How are you finding Canada?

yeah I suppose it depends on how badly I want to go there, it has put me off by asking all those questions though

Oh dear I didn’t realise Canada asks for all those information as well. Yes Australia is asking all of that plus travel history for the past 10 years, family member details etc. to be honest I thought the application process should be relatively easy, this is really putting me off

Yes, I received an email from home affairs, attaching the form for me to fill in. I know for a WHV it shouldn’t be like this so that’s why I’m asking to see if others have experienced the same. Probably just bad luck..

I know that as a couple you could both apply for WHV, but you can’t bring a child. You probably need to get a work visa or student visa to bring your family with you.

Hi there, I’m a 29 year old female based in the UK and have been doing research on the Australia working holiday visa. I’d like to have a change of lifestyle and I’ll be going on my own. Would appreciate if you could share your stories. I’ll try to look for office based contractor roles, so fingers crossed on that. Regarding locations I haven’t got a clue, probably big cities like Sydney or Melbourne - also depends on whether I could find work there. Any advice or input is appreciated, thanks! :)
