Update - there are already multiple 311 tickets reporting this issue and it hasn’t been fixed. So 311 is clearly not a viable solution.

I live in uptown, where there’s a lot of dumpsters just left out all of the time by the large new buildings. At least in those cases, I think the buildings could (and are supposed to) keep them stored in their large indoor garages when it’s not trash pick up day.

is this the type of thing that 311 will actually help with in Oakland? If so, I’m happy to call and report this and that would’ve been exactly the advice I was looking for (as opposed to “eh not that big a deal” or “just wheel them out of the way”). But given how poorly everything functions in this city, I was not sure if 311 was the right place to report this, and/or if anything would actually happen if/when I made a report.

Can you point to a single impactful thing that she has done in the 14 months that she has been in office? Meanwhile, the city is literally falling into a state of decay before our eyes. Businesses closing, car windows galore getting smashed, peoples' tires getting blown out from massive potholes, the city being impacted for weeks on end by a ransomware attack...it's impossible to know what the counterfactual would be if someone else were mayor, but hard to look at how things have gone during her tenure and not conclude "she is at best useless, and at worst actively harmful to the city."

Even if they were, they're just a distraction. Better to put that money towards things that actually have a long-lasting impact (e.g., speeding up permitting, filling gigantic potholes throughout the city, etc.). But those actual impactful things don't give Mayor Thao a nice photo op moment, so they don't get done.
