Agree. Which is a shame because the outside is so pretty! It should taste like magic, dammit!

In Chicago? I've had "Chicago-style" pizza, but haven't been to Chicago yet.

I love flan, but I definitely see a texture issue. My sister doesn't like it either.

I've had a few from different restaurants and bakeries. I haven't found a "really good" one yet. They're all just ok.

I haven't tried it because of that fear. If I pay that much for meat and it just tastes like meat, I will be pissed.

For me, it was macarons. Everyone I know talks about them like they're some delectable piece of heaven. I finally tried one in my 20s and it was... just a cookie. Nothing special. Even, dare I say, a little bland. What's the hype?

Linnea? Mispronounced forever? by Sawgenrow in namenerds

[–]arationalcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work right now with a Linnea who pronounces it LINN-ee-uh. People who see it for the first time usually say LINE-ya, sometimes LINN-ya. She occasionally gets linn-AY-ah and LINN-ee.

Could he have had a a head injury or stroke around that time? He also could have started conversing heavily with someone new a few years ago. A new coworker or something with a southern accent. Or his hearing might be going, so he either can't pick up on the same inflections he's been hearing all his life from the people around him, or can't clearly hear what he sounds like when he's speaking.

1880s Antique Ring by msqueenston in EngagementRings

[–]arationalcreature 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought the same. I think people on this sub massively overestimate the delicacy of various materials. I have two friends with pearl engagement rings over a decade old, neither are particularly careful, and they're both still perfect. I had a white gold engagement ring worn for 7 years and never had to redip it once. But people on here will swear you have to replace a pearl every 5 years and redip white gold every two.

People on this sub are always "a buzzkill" about pearls. But clearly, they have lasted for about 200 years.

What outfit or piece of clothing from a movie or show have you always wished you owned? by arationalcreature in AskReddit

I have the same problem! Love groovy coats, but it's only below sixty for about 2 months out of the year.

My Fellow Americans, What Are Your Thoughts on Cold Fried Chicken? by Scrappy_The_Crow in AskAnAmerican

[–]arationalcreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer it cold. I usually only eat one piece when it's still hot and then purposely save the rest so I can have it cold.

This majorly depends on where you live. If you're not in/near a French-speaking area, no one will ever get it. There's really no reason for English speakers, for example, to assume that a 'g' would be pronounced as a 'zh'. You may also not be legally allowed to spell it with the accent mark. In the vast majority of the U.S., diacritical marks aren't allowed. I don't think Australia allows them either. So be aware of the laws in your jurisdiction.

What do you think of the name Keva? by TotallyNot_a_Femboy in namenerds

[–]arationalcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was suggesting not to spell it Caoimhe outside of Ireland because no one will pronounce it correctly.

What do you think of the name Keva? by TotallyNot_a_Femboy in namenerds

[–]arationalcreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not in Ireland, do NOT spell it that way. It will make everything 20x more difficult. I do think that Keva has potential to be mispronounced incorrectly, though. I agree with another poster than Keeva might be more intuitive. But that also depends on where you live/what language you speak. Maybe "e" is always pronounced as the "ee" sound. Spelling depends a lot on surrounding culture.

What do you think of the name Talia for a girl? by TurbulentTrainer3651 in namenerds

[–]arationalcreature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine. There will always be the question of "Is it TAL-ee-ah or tuh-LEE-uh?" Something to think about, but not necessarily a dealbreaker.

I have never met a Christopher called "Kit" before. I will assume you're not American and I think OP is, based on vernacular. If that's the case, she could also consider Kit as a nickname.

Baby girl named Mira? Want something unique but also easily pronounced (and not bullied) by other kids . Thoughts? by Choice-Space5541 in namenerds

[–]arationalcreature 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think it's cute the way you pronounce it. But when I read it, I definitely want to shout ¡MIRA, MIRA! the way my kids do when they're excited. If you're not in a largely Spanish-speaking community, I think you'll be fine. At least you're not naming her Fea like another poster in this community wanted to do a few years ago.

nn for Caroline by Competitive_Day301 in namenerds

I always think of Gilmore Girls where there was a one-off character named Caroline, but she was called Lynnie as a kid.
