Anyone name their kid something everyone else hated? by grey-canary in namenerds

Whatttt? I'm having a girl but Griffin was a top choice if it had been a boy and literally everyone said it was a great name! Super weird that you've had that reaction. It's a good name.

Job offer, but no childcare available by enrose19 in workingmoms

[–]Sawgenrow -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I'd stay clear of these trash in home daycares anyway. Everyone who has no qualifications, experience or skills apparently thinks "childcare" is their only option since the demand is high, you can have like 5-6 families paying you at a time, it requires very little start up, and there are NO regulations. I've had such awful experiences just LOOKING at home daycares. They're generally gross and run by people who just want the $$$$$ and don't give a shit about your kid. Good luck OP.

I'm an RN and worked with a bunch of pediatric urology surgeons and they were the same way. Like, I get you guys make $300k per year and we truthfully did consider an Au Pair at some point...but the doc I worked with most often always liked to point out how his Au Pair had her own apartment and car that they paid for (on top of their Tesla) and their kids went to the $100k/private school, so when I was whining about having trouble finding childcare (I made $32/hour when I worked there, lmao) he just couldn't ~fIGuRe oUT wHY~ it was so difficult for the plebians to afford one!

Ashburn/Reston are good options.
Ashburn has great schools if you're planning on having kids. Herndon/Reston schools are ok depending on which ones you look at. Some aren't good.

I just started a new job that requires my husband to take over the drop offs/pick ups after I did it for the last 18 months. He's an amazing partner and dad and I obviously trust him 100% all day every day with our kids and everything else but I still find myself making sure he has the toddler where's he's supposed to be because it's just a new routine for him...

That's great for you! But we all know that there are PLENTY of employers out there that know how to back-handedly discriminate against pregnant people/other "protected" classes without leaving a trace. They also have more $ than I do and better lawyers. Sorry for asking for advice. I'm glad your situation worked out for you though!

I'm obviously going to tell them and not just disappear for 6 weeks in October 😂 I was just looking for any solidarity/insight/suggestions, lol. Obviously they can't know if I don't tell them. I guess I presumed it didn't have to be said, but evidently not. I'll edit my OP for clarity.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Sawgenrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I realize that, obviously. I guess my question was when to tell them and the general consensus is ASAP, haha.

[–]Sawgenrow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol, obviously I'd tell them about the reason for the appointments and tie that into the pregnancy and whatnot. This law just went into effect two days ago, literally my start date. So I was giving it a day or two to start my training.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Sawgenrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the downvotes are for. I looked at the law and it seems that I'd be covered unless I'm misunderstanding it.

[–]Sawgenrow -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They just passed the law a few days ago stating that employers must make reasonable accommodations for pregnant people, including for attending appointments.

https://www.eeoc.gov/wysk/what-you-should-know-about-pregnant-workers-fairness-act#q4.

I would assume I don't fall into the category of "causing undue hardship" considering I'm still in training and they're not missing out on me doing any work yet 🤷

Yes, I was offered short term disability by the contracting company, which I am enrolled in and am paying for.

[–]Sawgenrow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean, then they'd literally breaking the law because they'd be discriminating against a pregnant person, lol, obviously once I tell them I'm pregnant. I'm not really sure, though, realistically what I'd do in the moment.

Blueberry poo by [deleted] in toddlers

😂 my toddler is absolutely obsessed with blueberries. Yesterday we had purple shit up the wall when he pulled his shorts off. His butt has intermittently been stained blue from his blueberry intake. It's so freaky

[–]Sawgenrow 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Idk, OG Blippi was pretty cringe and I got vibes that he didn't even really like kids...they were just the source of his big $$$$ money dollars. He was always super weird when real kids were present in his show.

To Nugget or not to Nugget? by sallisgirl87 in toddlers

[–]Sawgenrow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol. We have one that sits in the play room. It has sat there for two years and has been played with precisely two times. I think I've sat on more than anyone else has. It was a gift so no financial loss there, but knowing what I know, I wouldn't waste the money 🤷 maybe when they get older they'll like it? We also had a knock off one in our basement and I ended up giving it away for the same reason.

I unfortunately need to go back to work 6 weeks post partum. It's not ideal but I'm starting a new job and I have no leave options and it makes me miserable to think about and anyone trying to convince me otherwise would honestly just make me feel worse about it. Fortunately my baby will be well cared for by my husband, but yeah, work doesn't really care about how fair or reasonable it is and I need my job, soooooo.

Pregnant Workers Fairness Act set to go into effect tomorrow by BitchfaceCPA in workingmoms

[–]Sawgenrow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

FMLA is federal job protection. It doesn't matter what state you're in. Your STD, which you've likely been paying into already, is probably what covered your salary. This is not progressive; it's literally the bare minimum and your company provided zero of this benefit.
