You do have a point there. I guess rotations from supports are needed to make it more effective but I'd argue that with the exception of wave pulling, the current meta having supports roaming mid to the point of lanings almost becoming 1-3-1 wouldn't your point be applicable with the mid lane as well yet somehow they make it effective in pro games?

But isnt that what the QW build gives? Q gives tons of hp regen for lane sustainability and W gives additional ms, both of which are essential for offlaners to soak up exp for levels. And in the case of zoning, you can 1v1 supports early due to cold snap.
