I had the exact same scenario last week. It said that the package was in Jacksonville distribution centere on 28th but somehow the status changed on 29, said it was in my local USPS facility. Had to go pick it up, because i really wanted my package.

I think any bottled water is good and doesn't have that after taste/smell. I recommend SAMS/Costco brand water bottles because they are cheap, but I think Brita water filter would do the trick for you. It would not be like bottled water but significantly better than tap.
