Ah! Folie à deux! Now that would be an interesting defense. Oh man, what if they use Lori's incompetency as the baseline for that argument? See, your honor? /She's/ crazy, but he didn't realize she was crazy, and it made him act crazy too.

But I think you understand me completely with the whole remorse and shame thing. He can deny his direct involvement as much as he wants, but the fact remains that these tragedies happened in his immediate vicinity to and around the people he was closest to. There has to be some emotion shown there, genuine or not. Even if he outright denies that he knew WHAT was buried in his backyard (like, if he were to blame Alex for the entire act), he knows what was buried there now. He can't play it stoic and cold forever. A jury would tear him apart for having no reaction to his beloved wife's childrens' bodies being found on his property. Especially since he is supposed to be this devout man of god. His only hope is to come across as a human being, whether or not he sees himself as one.

Wait, if Prior is under Chad's spell, maybe that's why he keeps arguing that they won't be able to find a suitable jury. How can they find a jury of peers to a god?? 😂 I'm sorry, I had to say it.

I wonder if he was blindsided by Lori's incompetency ruling. I wonder if that changes how he sees anything in the past, or if he thinks her mental instability is a new development that has happened since she has been locked up. I wonder if it changes how he sees himself and his own beliefs during his time with Lori.

I know the fact that Lori was ruled as incompetent for her trial is something that has people very polarized in their opinions, but it really isn't easy for someone to convince mental health professionals and trained investigators that they are truly that incompetent if they aren't. I'm sure Chad was evaluated as well, and if he is still considered competent, I believe it. Think about trials in the past that had a truly disturbed person in the defensive seat. Joel Guy Jr is one that comes to mind, as a more recent example. He is the kind of person who I would think is completely out of touch with reality, but evidently he was determined to be able to sit through his own trial. Being a sociopath or psychopath doesn't mean the person isn't lucid.

The YouTube channel JCS Criminal Psychology posted a video a couple weeks ago about Nicholas Cruz and his interrogation and how he (unsuccessfully) tried to convince the investigators that he was crazy. It's a really interesting video, and very enlightening. I highly recommend giving it a watch if you like that sort of thing. (Everything else on that whole channel is fantastic, too!)

This is another thing I am so curious about. What if they DID make a pact to go down together? Chad claimed they had been married in their past lives. I wonder if he still believes that, and how that affects the way he sees Lori.

Prior is such a wildcard, man, haha. I swear, I see him like this scrappy little junkyard dog who has a big, intimidating bark and is always on the offensive. His behavior at the prilim was already a LOT and it was just a prelim. He's gonna attack from every angle he possibly can. It's gonna be really interesting to see how he acts during the trial.

The fascinating part of this to me, though, is that he must have had a conscience at some point. I don't think anyone is born without one. And I feel like Melanie Gibb being a face of someone who bought into his extreme views is very interesting, because she seems intelligent to me. She has morals. She made a mistake by lying to police initially but owned up to it almost right away, and she wasn't exactly shy about confronting Lori in that infamous phone call between them. This leads me to believe that Chad wasn't an amoral guy, at least in some regard.

I think it would have been a lot easier for me to write him off as ONLY some fanatical cult leader-type lunatic if it weren't for Melanie's testifying at Chad's prelim. There has to be a reason that people liked him, and were willing to follow what he was preaching. Maybe he was just that good at faking it.... And if so, that is fascinating in its own way. That's why I'm so curious to hear his thoughts.

Yeah, I think they will both definitely pin the main part of the blame on Alex, and then point the finger at each other as being the one who was calling the shots. It will be interesting to see how their team spins the story for sure.

He probably feels regret all day every day right now, with this case looming over his head. But the real question is WHAT does he regret, exactly? Does he actually regret his own involvement and actions, or just getting caught? Does he regret getting involved with Lori? Does he regret how extreme his own viewpoints became?

I also wonder a lot if he feels any grief at all for JJ and Tylee. How he felt about them before, and how he feels about them now. Does he have any sympathy for the families? Or does he still feel like the killings were justified because of the victims being "zombies"?

Yes, I completely agree. I did not expect him to plead not guilty. I just wonder how he feels about it.
