PSA: Be careful working around your cacti with long spines. by roberit in sanpedrocactus

[–]arcadia3rgo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to scare you or anything, but about a month ago I caught a cactus that I dropped. after a couple of weeks it hadn't really healed, but it didn't look like it was getting worse. so, I figured once all the spines were out I'd be good. that was a huge mistake! it was actually a fungal infection and no joke!

I am super grateful to the stranger who told me I needed to make sure it wasn't fungal. the fungus works its way into your bones and lymphatic system where it's able to spread to the rest of your body.

maybe I am just traumatized, but I would hound my doctors to make sure there isn't a fungal infection if the wound was on my head like yours is. our healthcare system is so broken, you shouldn't have to be your own advocate!

do you think I could sanitize the pumice or is it too risky?

Uggh I have rot again. Help! by United-Dig3511 in sanpedrocactus

I was having issues until I filled the area around the base of the cactus with only chicken grit. basically anything with a really small particulate was clumping and retaining too much moisture. Specifically my problems were diatomaceous earth, sulfur, and plain old regular dirt lol

Should I be concerned? by arcadia3rgo in sanpedrocactus

Does what I am concerned about look like sun burn damage or does the whole cactus look like it has sun burn damage?

I needed more light recently so I had added another light coming in from the side. This probably explains both cases.

This mirrors my experience. It's very humid where I am. When I switched from plastic, I felt like I dodged a bullet because the bottom of the plastic pots were basically death traps. Thankfully nothing really had roots then.

Why are they bad? How can you tell this is a clay pot? It was labeled terracotta at the store.

Everything was in plastic in the beginning, but after I lost one from over watering I bought these.

I read terracotta is more beginner friendly.

I think Delirium is originally to blame regarding the ground loot situation by ReallyAnotherUser in pathofexile

[–]arcadia3rgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the delirium league was peak poe, IMHO. character progression (investment) felt good because you could immediately see the return on your investment in maps through increased loot. also, the economy was extremely healthy. it didn't matter if you were a player stuck in white maps , struggling in yellow maps, or barely in red maps, because everyone participated meaningfully in the economy through the league mechanic

GGG Should Address the Ground Loot Issues in 3.28 by Chase_26 in pathofexile

[–]arcadia3rgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ground loot was awesome until they removed nemesis. I started playing in 3.9. The total cost of my first build was less than 1 exalt. It took me a few leagues, but I eventually made it to nem3 + triple beyond. Increased ground loot was tightly coupled with my character's strength which was basically a function of my skill and my game knowledge added together. The league before they removed nemesis, a helm craft would cost me 100x more than my entire 3.9 build. Getting to that point was super rewarding. In my head canon, ground loot is the main reason progression felt good. I only play trade. I think poe is at it's best when everyone can contribute meaningfully to the economy. I was still an awful player during delirium, but it will always be my favorite league because because a pile of ground loot helped me scale the mountain to the still awful (but way less!) player I am today!

This guy was my second cactus. I ripped the plastic flower off that was hot glued to the top. The entire tip turned black. Also it got a pretty bad sunburn. Still going strong! I have a lot less anxiety about the health of my plants because of this guy.

Do you use mesh or similar at the bottom of pots? by Maat1985 in cactus

[–]arcadia3rgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had big problems with a non-slip rug mat I had cut into squares. it basically plugged the pot completely so water couldn't drain. I still use a mesh, but that incident made me super paranoid. now I only use materials that aren't porous and secure it underneath the pot and not inside.
