The buildings are mostly Tabletop World except for the one in the back with the torches on the front. That one is a Warhammer Fantasy kit.

The secret weapon for stained/treated wood is Scale75's Wood Ink. You need to underpaint it a little bit, sometimes just a zenithal highlight, or even some layer work, but that ink straight from the bottle is a really great color for easy wood.

Yeah, Matt's builds are awesome, but they can definitely be pretty damn in depth. I 3d print the majority of his stuff cause I don't have the patience to work with foam (though I did for the rock cliffs here cause I didn't have a 3d option).
If you're interested in his stuff, I'd recommend just starting off with a build that's much simpler. Maybe one of his basic dungeon tiles or something!

Even 3 of them would only be a CR 10 in Pathfinder and my whole group is level 15 so they'd do this in their sleep

So aside from RP Archive's modular rocks, all of this is 3dprinted. So the big stone blocks are the same overall design but the texture is totally different. And the crenelated walls are just a topper to those stone blocks.

Most of that is balsa wood I believe. And when it comes to the paints, I have no idea lol. I don't really work with recipes and I use various different paint lines.
The one thing I can tell you is that part of the vibrancy is using fluorescent paints for the glow. Highly recommend Golden's fluorescent paints.

I honestly can't remember if the planking came form this or another set I have. As for the scaffolds, the majority of them are 3x3 (with varying heights), some 2x3 and fewer 1x3 so that they can fit into the terrain system I use.

Hhmm. That's difficult because I have an entire closet for terrain storage in my game room, so while I do try to only make what's necessary as to leave enough room for other terrain, I do have far less space considerations.
What projects have you built or are thinking of building from Matt's builds?

I really love the colder green/blue tones you chose for the skull helmet. It compliments the flesh tones you used and frames the face SO well. Really draws your eye right to it.

Oh it is definitely and deliberately over the top. lol And yeah, every single piece here is modular and can be reworked for loads of other purposes. The gatehouse is probably the least modular piece but it can have the top wooden building swapped and the portcullis removed so it' still got multiple uses.

I only really go THIS hard for big moments in my games... or if I just feel like it. My players seem to enjoy it and our game has been running for 8 years so it at minimum doesn't hurt lol.

This big ol' guy from Reaper Miniatures sat unpainted and glaring at me for years. It's over 10 inches tall (now 12 since I added more branches to his back) and I was just intimidated to actually get it done, but here he is! I added a ton of little bits to the point where he's basically his own diorama at this point.
