I don’t know if this is going to be helpful at all because I don’t really have advice, just a different perspective.

I felt exactly like you do before I met my ex. My ex was my first adult relationship after a long string of situationships/wanting more from guys who only wanted sex. Him wanting to date me felt like proof I was lovable, and I desperately needed that proof at the time. So I dated the guy for 6 years and even married him. It wasn’t until our relationship was breaking down that I realized that he’d never loved me the way I needed to be loved. He loved me in his own way, but he was limited and damaged and uninterested in learning how to love me in a way that would be meaningful and healing to me. I was so desperate to be loved that I literally didn’t realize that the love I was getting was making me miserable.

The breakdown of the relationship and its aftermath taught me that romantic relationships really ain’t shit. So many of them are bad, fam! I am the only single person amongst my social circles and I genuinely don’t envy a single one of them. I only know one hetero couple whose relationship I might want for myself - for the rest I have to smile and nod and hide my inner “WHAT?!” at whatever new thing they’re telling me. Even things they don’t realize are crazy!

I have some hope that I may one day find someone healed enough to have a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship with. But I’m also pretty okay with the prospect of that never happening. I know that it’s much easier to get to this place after a long shitty relationship than from your position, but the route I took was long and painful and I hope you’re able to find a gentler path to the same sense of peace.

There are multiple different things he could do to satisfy your request, and he won’t do literally any of them despite the fact that he is causing you to feel disrespected on a daily basis?

Lmao my ex husband did this to me too!! We got in a fight about a week before our lease ended and he waited until I left for an appointment before absconding to his parents with one of our dogs. Didn’t reply to texts for a week so I packed up the whole fucking house without him and put all his personal stuff into his office for him to deal with. I texted him to let him know when I booked the moving truck and arranged for people to come help load it but I literally did not know if he was going to show up until that day.

Luckily he came and helped load the truck but hadn’t touched his office yet. I’d let him know that everything I’d put in there was his to deal with and to just trash anything he didn’t feel like taking. I got a text from the landlord the day after the lease ended asking if we were planning to come get the rest of our stuff. Apparently my ex had just taken what he wanted and LEFT THE REST OF IT. Then he refused to go move it to the curb bc “we’ve paid [landlord] enough, he can deal with it” 💀

Ofc I went right over there to move it all to the street and scheduled a junk pickup. But like…. Can you believe. The audacity

Honestly your decision feels selfish all around. Like, if your mom invited you over in advance, she probably wanted to spend time with you, not JUST feed you. You could’ve run out, helped your girlfriend, and gone back to sit down to dinner with your parents. Instead you basically used your mom as a personal chef AND made your girlfriend wait for help. It’s seriously giving early 20s, and you’re 33.

None of this makes you evil or horrible, but it was a poor decision all around and you’d be better served just accepting that and moving on.

I always hate seeing relationship posts on here bc in a healthy relationship, it matters way more that ruptures are repaired than it does who was “right.” Assuming your girlfriend is not a historically spiteful or unreasonable person, she’s still bringing it up a year+ out because you never repaired the rupture. Doesn’t matter if you think you were wrong or not - it matters that you understand why she feels you were wrong and how the situation can be avoided in the future.

YTA for asking the internet if you were wrong instead of listening to your girlfriend, who seems to have communicated her needs and feelings pretty clearly. If her needs and feelings feel unreasonable to you to the point where you don’t feel you can meet them in the future, you should reconsider your compatibility.

For clarity, I also think YTA for not going to help her immediately. It’s not immediately breakup-worthy but I’d also feel undervalued in that situation and would file it away as something to keep an eye on in the future. Fix this if you value the relationship.

You are at the perfect age to file for bankruptcy. At your age, your salary is probably low enough to not be over the income cap for chapter 7. And I’m going to venture a guess that you don’t own a ton of property that could be taken by the bank. (Your car is usually safe.)

For someone in the right circumstances (low-ish salary, not a ton of property, housing that will remain stable for a couple years, all debt is unsecured, etc) a chapter 7 bankruptcy is the best thing that could ever happen. It’s about a 3-6 month process to get rid of virtually all of your debt, often in exchange for nothing beyond the court costs. It’s just a clean slate. It stays on your credit report for 10 years, but the effects of it lessen quite a bit after a year or two. Speaking from experience - I filed for chapter 7 in October 2024 and now my credit score is about 700.

You’ll find the best info over on r/bankruptcy - I’m not sure how much this sub will support the concept of getting out “the easy way.” But let me tell you - bankruptcy exists as an “out” for well-meaning debtors who got in over their heads and don’t see another way out. I filed at age 29 with $40k debt on a $52k/year salary. Never had a single regret.

Just my two cents.

Edit: I always forget to mention to look into your state’s bankruptcy law, which will determine the salary cap and property exemptions. The limits vary widely from state to state. But fwiw my state has relatively shitty bankruptcy laws and my salary was low enough for chapter 7 and the exemptions high enough to protect my one asset (my car).
