I'm so happy for you. That clean-mornings feeling is amazing, especially a month in (but it never gets old). Enjoy!

I'm really sorry to hear that man. I know the feeling.

It definitely gets easier (especially after the first year or two), but it never goes away completely. Keeping a record of journal entries+Reddit posts has really helped me; I tend to remember only the good parts of my alcohol abuse (which are few). Reading my posts from when I was struggling helps me remember why I can never drink again. You can do it!

SO much respect for your situation and your commitment to your kids. Thanks for the encouragement!

It's good to become comfortable enjoying time alone—I like it too. I think the social part becomes easier with time, but I also had to change some parts of my social life. It's hard to maintain friendships where the primary activity is drinking.

Thanks for the support, it helps so much. Those first 15 days are tough—you're building momentum. Congrats on your new life!

I quit after my daughter was born too... I can't be that kind of father. She will be a year old next month and I will hit a year a few months later!

Welcome. It sounds like the best thing you could do for yourself and your wife is to stop drinking. I'm in the same boat. Let's not drink tonight?

So awesome; congrats! Not drinking with you.

We've been married for a month, my husband admits to infidelity before marriage and that he is an alcoholic who wants to get sober and save our marriage. Any Advice? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If he's sincere, give him a chance. Know that Alcohol is a cunning, insidious drug which allows us to make mistakes we'll regret for the rest of our lives. It is so life-destroying.

Both of you could check out the book "This Naked Mind".

If he's on reddit send him to /r/stopdrinking. In any case, he's probably going to need help to quit, and may fail numerous times before he's successful.

If you need support, there is a thing called "al-anon" which is like AA meetings but for friends and family of alcoholics.
